Playing a blend of hardcore punk and extreme metal, this pioneer outfit helped define a lot of the rudiments of the fast-burgeoning metalcore and mathcore genres formed by vocalist Jacob Bannon and guitarist Kurt Ballou in Salem, Massachusetts in 1990. During the recording of their seminal fourth album Jane Doe, the group became a four-piece with the departure of guitarist Aaron Dalbec and the addition of bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. This lineup has remained intact since. They have released nine studio albums, three live albums, and numerous EPs. The band's sound is rooted in both hardcore punk and extreme metal, and they are considered pioneers of metalcore as well as its subgenre mathcore.
Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.

Reptilian
Converge Lyrics
Futile wars for fruitless words
Written by shadow kings
Their shrapnel seeds the desert fields
And sprouts this fear we see
Devils do not need a hell in order to exist
Melodies of flightless birds
Remind reptilian me
That time is not through sharpening
Our tested claws and teeth
Devils do not need a hell in order to exist
We must lose sight of the shore to know what courage means
We must lose sight of who we are to know what we can be
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
Written by shadow kings
Their shrapnel seeds the desert fields
And sprouts this fear we see
Devils do not need a hell in order to exist
Melodies of flightless birds
Remind reptilian me
That time is not through sharpening
Our tested claws and teeth
We must lose sight of the shore to know what courage means
We must lose sight of who we are to know what we can be
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me
The enemy will not reveal its mortal form to me

There is no doubt in my mind this band will never not release a blood pumping invigorating album. For my money, the most consistent punk/metal hardcore whatever sub sub genre you wanna call this band ever.

Robert Evans That is what I have been saying too Robert. I believe I can speak for you, as well as most in the know... that is doesn't diminish the excellent quality of anything back to "Jane Doe". But they do keep improving as time goes on. The payoff of hard work and consistently creating fresh results. Or something... Uhuhhhuhuhuhh... (Butt-head)

I'm so hyped for this album! The songs that came out are great already

one of the best parts of being a converge fan is how you already like the song just from pressing play, and you only like it more and more whenever you hear it from then on... Another great feeling that fans might get is how respectable everything they release really is.
