Converge have enjoyed a relatively high level of recognition. According to AllMusic, they are "regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground." Their popularity rose with the release of Jane Doe, which was ranked as the best album of 2001 by Terrorizer and later as the 61st Best Metal Album of All Time by Rolling Stone. Subsequently, Converge moved from Equal Vision Records to the considerably larger label Epitaph Records and their records gradually became more elaborate and expensive to produce. Special releases have traditionally been handled by Deathwish Inc., established by Bannon in 1999. The band's ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, was released in November 2017 through Deathwish and Epitaph.
Sparrow's Fall

From the dead weight of this earth
His precious held life long dreams
Were someone else's old misgivings
Don't live as the echo
But thrive as the sound
The boy dug deep with his hands
Only to find poisoned lands
Were our legacies of hand me down mistakes
The fruits of our tears rot at the vine
Not enough heart not enough time
No right answers to their wrong ways
When we inherit our graves
(Don't) live as the echo
But thrive as the sound
(Don't) live as the echo
But thrive as the sound
Don't let your future
Writhe in our past
Don't let your future
Writhe in our past
Don't let your future
Writhe in our past
Don't let your future
Writhe in our fucking past
In the song "Sparrow's Fall" by Converge, the sparrow's fall from its perch symbolizes the weight of the world that weighs us down until we can no longer fly. The sparrow may have once held precious life long dreams, but they were shattered by the misgivings of others. The lyrics advise us not to live as an echo of the mistakes of others but to thrive and create our own unique and positive sound.
The second verse tells the story of a boy who dug deep with his hands only to find poisoned lands, reflecting the state of the world we have inherited. He could only carry the legacies of hand-me-down mistakes, meaning that the burdens of the past continue to hold us back. The fruits of our tears rot at the vine, suggesting that we have failed to cultivate a fruitful and sustainable future. The song highlights that there are no right answers to the wrong ways we have inherited. We must create new solutions and a better future, not let our future writhe in our past.
