Origin of Jenkins Stage Name--------- Jenkins felt that his real name wasn't marketable, and he changed his show business name in 1957. (Harold Lloyd Jenkins would always remain his legal name, however). Looking at a road map, he spotted Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. Thus, he went with the professional name of "Conway Twitty".[citation needed]
Alternatively, Jenkins met a Richmond, VA, man named W. Conway Twitty Jr. through Jenkins' manager in a New York City restaurant. The manager served in the army with the real Conway Twitty. Later, the manager suggested to Jenkins that he take the name as his stage name because it had a ring to it. The Richmond Conway Twitty subsequently recorded the song, "What's in a Name But Trouble," in the mid-1960s, lamenting the loss of his name to Jenkins. The flip side of the 45 RPM record was "The Purple, Purple People Eater, Eater." (The more well known version of Purple People Eater, however, now having sold over 100,000,000 copies, was recorded by Sheb Wooley.)

I threw away the pictures of those better days in Dallas
But I can't throw away these pictures in my mind
She's a page of precious memories
I've tried hard to turn
She's standing on a bridge that just won't burn
If only time will heal the hurt
I may never know how it feels to forget
Every time I think about her
Those old feelings still return
She's standing on a bridge that just won't burn
I've burned a lot of bridges in my time
But the one I just crossed over
It ain't the burning kind
She's that once in a lifetime
Kind of love that never will return
She's standing on a bridge that just won't burn
She's standing on a bridge that just won't burn
Conway Twitty's 1985 country ballad, “A Bridge That Just Won’t Burn,” speaks to the difficulty of letting go of a past love. The singer has tried to forget about his former love by throwing away pictures, but he can’t seem to shake the memories from his mind. She is like a "page of precious memories" that he can’t turn away from. The song compares her to a bridge that just won’t burn, suggesting that their love is too strong to be destroyed. The singer acknowledges that the pain of the breakup may never go away and that their love may last forever, leaving him with a sense of loss and longing that he can’t escape.
The song emphasizes the strength of the relationship between the singer and his former love. Even though the couple has separated, there is still a deep connection between them that refuses to be broken. The use of the bridge metaphor to describe the relationship reinforces this idea. Bridges are typically sturdy and reliable, allowing people to cross over obstacles. In this case, the bridge is a symbol of the love that the couple shared. Even though they have gone their separate ways, their connection still exists, just like the unburnable bridge.
Overall, "A Bridge That Just Won't Burn" explores the complex nature of love and the enduring power of memories. The song captures the bittersweet feeling of looking back on a past love and grappling with the pain of loss. Despite the passage of time, the singer is still haunted by his memories, unable to let go of the emotional connection he shared with his former partner.
