Origin of Jenkins Stage Name--------- Jenkins felt that his real name wasn't marketable, and he changed his show business name in 1957. (Harold Lloyd Jenkins would always remain his legal name, however). Looking at a road map, he spotted Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. Thus, he went with the professional name of "Conway Twitty".[citation needed]
Alternatively, Jenkins met a Richmond, VA, man named W. Conway Twitty Jr. through Jenkins' manager in a New York City restaurant. The manager served in the army with the real Conway Twitty. Later, the manager suggested to Jenkins that he take the name as his stage name because it had a ring to it. The Richmond Conway Twitty subsequently recorded the song, "What's in a Name But Trouble," in the mid-1960s, lamenting the loss of his name to Jenkins. The flip side of the 45 RPM record was "The Purple, Purple People Eater, Eater." (The more well known version of Purple People Eater, however, now having sold over 100,000,000 copies, was recorded by Sheb Wooley.)
Don't Let It Go To Your Heart
Conway Twitty Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you're still thinking bout the things she had to say
She said leaving you was hard to do and it's sad we had to part
But don't let it go to your heart
So she told you she thinks of you now and then
Now you're thinking she might take you back again
But it's only cause she's lonely and she's about to fall apart
Cause I'm your heart and I can tell you that it doesn't mean a thing
She's just like you she hangs on to a helpless hopeless dream
She's made the break and it's hard to take
As you watch her teardrops start
But don't let it go to your heart
[ guitar ]
Cause I'm your heart...
No don't let it go to your heart
The song "Don't Go too Far" by Conway Twitty is a cautionary tale about not falling for the words of an ex-lover. The lyrics warn about the danger of listening to someone who is feeling lonely and vulnerable, and interpreting their words as a sign of romance. The song opens with the image of the singer encountering his ex and being pulled in by her friendly demeanor and kindness. She hints that their separation was hard for her, causing the singer to believe that there is still hope for their relationship. However, Twitty's character provides a critical voice, reminding the singer that their ex may only be feeling lonely and seeking comfort, and not necessarily offering true reconciliation. The lyrics caution the singer not to let his heart be swayed by their ex's words, even if she seems to show interest in him again.
The chorus repeats the warning not to let their ex's words go to heart. The singer's heart serves as a metaphorical voice of reason, reminding him that their ex's feeling may not be genuine. The lyrics suggest that the ex may be holding onto a hopeless dream, unable to move on from their past relationship. The song ends with the reminder not to let their ex's words deceive them and to not to let their heart be swayed.
Overall, the song's message is one of emotional intelligence and caution. It advises listeners to approach potential romantic situations with care and to be aware of their emotions' potential to cloud their judgment. The narrative highlights the importance of listening to the voice of reason, even when it may be difficult to hear.
