Origin of Jenkins Stage Name--------- Jenkins felt that his real name wasn't marketable, and he changed his show business name in 1957. (Harold Lloyd Jenkins would always remain his legal name, however). Looking at a road map, he spotted Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. Thus, he went with the professional name of "Conway Twitty".[citation needed]
Alternatively, Jenkins met a Richmond, VA, man named W. Conway Twitty Jr. through Jenkins' manager in a New York City restaurant. The manager served in the army with the real Conway Twitty. Later, the manager suggested to Jenkins that he take the name as his stage name because it had a ring to it. The Richmond Conway Twitty subsequently recorded the song, "What's in a Name But Trouble," in the mid-1960s, lamenting the loss of his name to Jenkins. The flip side of the 45 RPM record was "The Purple, Purple People Eater, Eater." (The more well known version of Purple People Eater, however, now having sold over 100,000,000 copies, was recorded by Sheb Wooley.)

It's your life
You say you need a change
Don't all the dreams we've seen come true
Mean anything
You say it's different now
And you keep staring at the door
Don't I matter anymore
If being free
Is worth what you leave behind
And if it's too late
For love to change your mind
Then it's goodbye time
If we had known
Our love would come to this
We could have saved our hearts
The hurt of wasted years
Well it's been fun
What else can I say
If the feeling's gone
Words won't stop you anyway
If being free
Is worth what you leave behind
And if it's too late
For love to change your mind
Then it's goodbye time
"Goodbye Time" by Conway Twitty is a heartfelt song about a breakup. The opening line sets the tone for the entire song; the singer acknowledges that it's the other person's life, and they need to make a change. However, the singer is confused as to why the person is walking away, and they question whether or not they matter anymore. The chorus is particularly poignant, as the singer questions whether being free is worth leaving behind their love and if it's too late for love to change their mind, leading them to believe that goodbye time has come.
The second verse reveals that the singer and the other person had an amazing love that has now come to an end, and they're both hurt. The singer expresses that if they'd known they would come to this point in their relationship, they could have saved each other's hearts from the hurt of wasted years. The final stanza acknowledges that it's been a fun ride, but if the love has faded, words won't stop the other person from leaving.
Overall, "Goodbye Time" is a bittersweet ode to lost love that asks the hard questions about whether walking away is worth what's left behind.
