Linda On My Mind
Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Chorus]
Now I'm lying here with Linda on my mind
And next to me my soon to be
The one I left behind
And lord it's killing me, to see her crying
She knows I'm lying here beside her
With Linda on my mind
Yes I know that I once loved her
And I placed no one above her
And I never thought I'd ever set her free
But it just wasn't in my plans

The way Linda squeezed my hand
The first time that I held her close
As she danced with me
She said I've loved you for a long time

But you're married to a friend of mine
And I've tried hard, to never let it show
But my love for you is stronger
I can't hide it any longer

And so I thought I'd better let you know

[Chorus]

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Linda On My Mind" tell a poignant story of a man who is torn between two women. The singer, who is lying next to his soon-to-be wife, reveals that he is plagued by thoughts of Linda, the woman he left behind. He is haunted by guilt and his lover's tears, recognizing that his current situation is tearing them apart. Despite his past love for his soon-to-be wife, he is unable to escape the memories and feelings he has for Linda.

The lyrics hint at the singer's regret and confusion. He acknowledges that he once loved his soon-to-be wife deeply and believed he would never let her go. However, he recounts the moment when Linda held his hand and expressed her love for him. The emotional connection they shared, coupled with the realization that he is married to a friend of Linda's, forces him into a state of conflict. He confesses that he has tried to keep his love hidden but can no longer suppress it, feeling the need to be honest about his feelings.

The chorus, repeating twice, emphasizes the agony the man feels as he lies next to his soon-to-be wife, with Linda occupying his thoughts. It showcases the internal struggle he faces and the pain he experiences knowing he is causing hurt to both women. The lyrics express the hopeless situation he finds himself in, torn between the love he once had and the commitment he now has.

Overall, "Linda On My Mind" explores the complex emotions and conflicting desires that arise when one is faced with a difficult choice between past love and present commitments.

My dad's song for my mama. They were married 54 years. Daddy passed away this past August and Mama followed a month later in September. I miss them so much. Today's mom's birthday the 1st birthday without her here and I'm feeling sentimental and listening to songs I grew up listening to growing up with my mom and dad. Mom and Dad were both laid to rest on Daddy's birthday in October. My heart is broken I miss them so much.
