September
Cordero Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometime around last September
You started fading away
We couldn't keep you
We kissed you and wished you
A safe return someday

You built a house by the river
There you stayed hidden away
So far from civiliation
You chased all your joy
Away

I see you standing on the ledge
Can't quite see what's up ahead
You're way too high to hear us call
You might climb down
Or you might fall

Sometimes we think about calling
Or dropping by unannounced
It's just that we miss you right now

We've been saving space for you

Come now, climb down
We're waiting for you
Hoping, praying that's you'll do

I see you standing on the ledge
Can't quite see what's up ahead
You're way too high to hear us call
You might climb down
Or you might fall

You might climb down
Or you might fall

You might climb down
Or you might fall

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cordero's song September describes the state of mind of someone who left their friends and family behind and retreated to a secluded place by a river. The opening lines of the song, "Sometime around last September, you started fading away," suggest that something changed in the person's life, and they began to distance themselves from the people they knew. Although they wished them a safe return someday, they built a house by the river, where they isolated themselves from civilization and "chased all [their] joy away."

The song portrays the struggle of those left behind, who try to reach out to the person but are unable to connect. The lines, "We've been saving space for you. Come now, climb down. We're waiting for you. Hoping, praying that's you'll do," suggest that the friends and family are still waiting for the person to come back and are hopeful that they would return to them. However, the person is depicted as standing on a ledge, too high to hear them call out for them, suggesting that they are still disconnected even though their loved ones want to help them.

The lines, "You might climb down or you might fall," are an expression of the uncertainty of the person's future. The mood of the song is melancholic and sad, reflecting the feelings of those left behind, who are still hoping for the person's safe return.

I’m so excited that they are back!!
I didn’t get the chance to catch them during the original run but I’m hoping to catch them this time!
2:30 I love that Sara (and Caitlin) care so much about the little Lulu’s and before they say a swear they cover the lulus ears.

I was there. 3rd row. Still one of my favorite memories ever. I was actually in the ladies' room with Amanda Kloots. I didn't recognize her at the time, but I remember thinking, "Oh! She's very tall and beautiful." LOL
