I didn't hear any Corelli until I was 18 - and I will always remember that day, and was amazed that I'd never come across him before.

This is their early recording and it IS sublime! I have studied and played these Concerto Grossi and I simply cannot listen to them enough - particularly 1-6. These are the Concerto Grossi that Bach and Vivaldi studied BEFORE they did much of their string music. They are exciting . . . my suggestion is to get a copy of the scores (do just one of them) and follow along and note what is written and what you hear. I LOVE their sound.
Many of my students found a love of "old" music in learning to play these pieces - some have gone on to get advanced degrees in ancient music. I have one student who went on to begin a viol ensemble that plays professionally.
You cannot listen to these Concerto Grossi too much - particularly if you study the score to discover what can be done with the notation! So much of it is invented by the players.
