La Rue
Cortex Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Elle me presse, me soulève

Elle me tire de mes rêves
Me ramène à la réalité

Overall Meaning

The song "La Rue" by Cortex portrays the feeling of restlessness and disillusionment in the midst of a bustling street. The opening lines, "Qu'est-ce qu'il y a ce matin dans la rue?/Une impression que rien ne va plus" ("What's going on in the street this morning?/A feeling that nothing is going well"), set the tone for the song's melancholic theme. The singer observes the people in the street and notices their aimlessness, describing them as "libres comme l'air" ("free as the air"). The singer then reflects on the surreal nature of the street, feeling as if she is walking aimlessly and with a sense of vulnerability. She describes herself as "nue" ("naked") and her bones as "papier" ("paper"), implying her frailty and susceptibility to the fast-paced world.

The refrain of the song, "Depuis demain/Jusqu'à hier, partout, toujours, que l'amour/Ivre de vie/Je m'envole et je crie, crie" ("From tomorrow/To yesterday, everywhere, always, with love/Drunk with life/I fly and scream, scream"), seems to serve as an escape for the singer from the mundanity of the street. The singer is enthusiastic and joyful about the prospect of living life to the fullest, indicating a desire to break free from the confinements of the street and embrace the possibilities of life.

Overall, "La Rue" is a contemplative song that delves into the complexities of urban life. Cortex tackles themes of feeling lost, disillusionment, and the search for meaning, but ultimately suggests that love and a zest for life can offer a way out of the chaos.

Everyone always complains about not being born when tracks like this were initially released but to be honest, music has never been easier to find due to youtube and websites like Last fm. And there is plenty of great music still being made. Big up the uploader!

You're totally right 👍

@umbra5119

people who complain about being born in the wrong era just want some attention cause their parents never gave it to em. You're 100% right

@unghouliant4732

I will say it is great to have everything on demand and the amount of music you are able to find because of YouTube and other websites is amazing, however you dont get the same thrill from having everything shoved in your face as to going to a vinyl shop to find new music or a place like block buster
