Born Again
Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I been feelin like my old self again
because momma didnt raise me to be no christian
and i been drinkin to my own health again
well raise another glass for the unforgiven

I been livin in a motel of sin
but i wouldnt trade my life for the one you were livin
I been walkin that long mile again
because i never fit in the shoes like the ones you were given

And we all loose ourselves in the end
and we all just wanna get high wont you help me friend
and if you never see that sun come shinin in
keep on lookin

I been livin in the old cell again
i don't wanna spend the day in the cold freezing
i been drummin on my own hell again
because ill never meet another soul like the one I'm missin

And we all loose ourselves in the end,
and we all just wanna get high wont you help me friend
and if you never see that sun come shinin in
well then keep on lookin
keep on lookin

And we all just wanna get high wont you help me friend
and we all loose ourselves in the end
and if you never see that sun come shinin in
keep on lookin
keep on lookin

I been feelin like my old self again
because momma didnt raise me to be no victim

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Born Again" by Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons talks about the feeling of being reincarnated or getting a second chance. The song brings up the idea that religion isn’t the way to give someone hope when they feel lost. It tackles the idea that people have different ways of coping with life and its difficulties, and for the singer in the song, it's turning to alcohol. The line, "raise another glass for the unforgiven" implies that the singer has done something that he isn't proud of, and instead of seeking forgiveness, he's drowning his sorrows in alcohol.

The song mentions the feeling of not fitting in and the pain of being misunderstood. It discusses the feeling of being trapped in a life that is built on someone else's expectations; "because I never fit in the shoes like the ones you were given." The singer mentions "the old cell again," which implies a return to a former way of life. Perhaps he's trying to rid himself of old habits or a particular phase of his life that haunts him.

Overall, "Born Again" by Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons is an introspective and relatable song about the struggles of coping with life. It tells a story of someone trying to find themselves again after feeling lost and misunderstood.

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭NIV‬

ROMANS 10:9-11 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame”

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭19:10‬ ‭

God wants us to believe in His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who died for our sins :D When we truly believe in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God, who died for our sins so we could have eternal life with God, we are saved from the eternal fire and have eternal life in Christ Jesus!! 💖 May God bless you all 🕊

Saying you're a songwriter is not relevant. It doesn't make your opinion more valid.

Just discovered Cory after watching the movie Appleseed that had Rance Howard(Rons dad) in it. I thought it was some Tom Petty song id somehow never heard before because his voice has that tone to it. Thanks for some great original music Cory!
