GENERATION
Count Zero Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're here to cut the ropes off!
and get your hands untied!
Greet my generation
with yer arms open wide!
Yeah, meet my generation
We feed our morals no pride.
Meet my generation
We don't take our quarrels outside.
(no, we'd rather sing)
"Fomp Fomp Fomp, biddle-ee-bomp bomp."

Meet my generation
If we're pissed we'll say.
We won't bottle it 'til it comes out
some convoluted way.
My generation
has thrown that crap behind.
We tolerate most any faith,
any state of mind.

Meet my generation.
Please, ma'am just the facts.
We feel no need to spill no seed
but Truth upon these tracks.
Yeah, meet my generation
We don't fall in love with things.
Instead we save our soul to crave the gold
in human beings.
(let me hear ya say)
"Fomp Fomp Fomp, biddle-ee-bomp bomp."

My generation
don't believe the hype.
We've seen too many false prophets
crowned in forty-point type.
My generation,
we're through playing cool.

We follow no bland recipes,
make up our own rules.

The song "Generation" by Count Zero is a statement from a generation that is tired of the societal norms of the past and wants to live life on their own terms. The lyrics catch on to the wave of the then-recent upsurge in youth culture and rebellion against popular tastes and beliefs. The song talks about throwing out the old ways of keeping quiet and bottling up emotions, and the new way of speaking up and expressing themselves.

The lyrics also speak to the idea that this generation is open to diversity in all forms, whether it be faith or state of mind, and that they believe in the value of human connections over material possessions. The song charges the listener to bring open arms to meet the members of this generation rather than clinging onto old prejudices and outdated beliefs. The lyrics are full of the enthusiasm and optimism of youth, charged by the need for change.

Generation Zero has quickly become forgotten by pretty much the entire gaming landscape as far as I can tell.

I cannot tell you how absolutely hyped I was for it when it was announced, I even pre-ordered it. The way it was advertised was basically "Hey! This is an unofficial Tales from the Loop game! You love the art of Simon Stålenhag right? You love the aesthetic of quiet Scandinavian towns in the 80's juxtaposed with sci-fi imagery? Well guess what! This game is for you."

And boy was I suckered in. I was basically thinking "This is going to a quiet version of the Far Cry games" and by that I mean, the awesome parts of Far Cry (the atmosphere of wandering the world alone) without the terrible plot and writing. I was basically thinking this was going to be a single player Day Z in Sweden.

It's no surprise that people have almost forgotten the game because as you said, it is entirely half baked. The game was clearly rushed by a small team who didn't have the development skills required to pull off the game they wanted to. The stealth, the combat; nothing in the game felt satisfying whatsoever. Just janky in every sense. I am more surprised that more people don't shit on the game actually.

I bet in around 5 years or so, this game will pop back up in the collective consciousness and people will do youtube essays about it; heralding it as a misunderstood masterpiece or something.

Pam! I wanted to say thank you - I bought "Astalon - Tears of the earth" based on your recommendation, and it really is SO amazing! also nice to hear you had a good (and safe) time at MagFest (big kudos on the Kyrandia music on the background, BTW!)

Cannot be Tamed

That's awesome, I'm glad you liked Astalon.

The Legend of Kyrandia is great. At least for me, this kind of adventures were the most important games during my childhood. Congrats for the video and greetings from 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷

Mike of the Mole People

I never liked The Legend of Kyrandia too much but loved the sequel Hand of Fate

Hokiepokie85

Oh heck, I was really hoping I could go to MAGfest this year, it's absolutely on my bucket list. I would have loved seeing Triforce Quartet and Super Guitar Bros, they are so amazing... maybe next year >.<

Glad to hear you had fun! :)

The court jester from The Count Lucanor is the definition of creepy cute. I want to get into more offbeat type horror games. A horror -puzzle game sounds fun.

INFPGamer

I played Kyrandia years ago and I'm sure I needed quite a few hints from online. I do enjoy the soundtrack and the fact that Brandon was voiced by Command and Conquer's Kane.

FroZenNinja

Pretty sure I put enough quarters into Revolution X and Area 51 to buy my own cabinets back in the day. Loved those games. Ah... I miss arcades...

I'm surprised that I've never heard of this "mag fest" sounds like something I'd like but I wanna go to Dragon Quest Island first, take out a few blue slimes, reach level two and earn a few gold. That Guardian Legend thing is fantastic
