Twisted
Courtney Patton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Covered in gas, light a match
and throw it on me as you walk on past.
There's a chance I might not burn that fast, In case you wanted a show.

I might just squirm or I may sit still, but either way you get a hell of a deal.
Be rid of me like that stubborn pill you don"t want to swallow.

Crying eyes are overrated
Especially when they're anticipated.
Don't understand how we got so jaded but we did.
Yeah you ain't gonna see a single tear
And it's about damn time you let go of that fear.
I believe we should go separate ways my dear,
'Cause we're twisted.

Well there's a time to split and a time to
and you wouldn't have loved me, either way
So let this departure make your day, because I'm leaving.
And I don't want to hear how you'll miss my smile
Or the way that my touch made it, all worth while.
I was always so easy for you to beguile with your deceiving.

Oh you selfish man, you take what you want.
And you toss the rest to the beast

I'm a gem, I'm a jewel, you're a thief and a fool
For taking that sparkle from me.

Overall Meaning

Courtney Patton's song Twisted is a powerful breakup anthem about a relationship that has gone sour. The lyrics are dark, raw and passionate, conveying the artist's heartbreak and desire to leave a relationship that has caused her nothing but pain. She starts with painting a vivid picture of her desperation in the opening verse, saying that she is covered in gas and beckoning her lover to light a match and get it over with. This lyrical imagery conveys a message of her wanting to leave her lover so badly that she's willing to go up in flames to do it.

The second verse of the song suggests that the couple's relationship has gone cold, and the artist has learned how to hide her emotions to protect herself from being hurt. She is more concerned about being "twisted" than crying over someone who doesn't deserve her emotions. She's telling her lover that she's not going to cry when the relationship ends, but rather, she's going to walk away, holding her head high, knowing that it's time to let go. The bridge offers a sense of relief, where she expresses the sentiment that there is a time to stay and a time to leave.

In the final verse, Courtney Patton accuses her lover of being selfish and a thief for taking away her sparkle. She compares herself to a jewel and her lover to a fool for not seeing her worth. This verse reveals a sense of hurt and resentment, leaving the listener with the impression that the relationship was never built on mutual respect and appreciation.

Overall, Twisted is a powerful message of self-respect, of having the strength to walk away from a toxic relationship, and of the pain that comes from someone not seeing your worth.

Adam Hood played one of her songs on the buddy and Jim show on outlaw country. Ever once in a while a singer comes along with a voice that can move us. Here she is in my humble opinion. Take note
