It has been suggested that Page collaborated with Coverdale in order to irk Page's former Led Zeppelin band-member Robert Plant, who up to that point had been reluctant to re-unite with Page.[1] In interviews at the time, Plant expressed some derision at the guitarist's collaboration with Coverdale.[2] Rumours emerged that Coverdale and Page would be joined by John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham in a reformed Led Zeppelin, but this did not pan out.[citation needed]
This studio album marked a return to commercial success for Page since his days with Led Zeppelin. However, after a series of concerts in Japan, sluggish tickets sales for a subsequent world tour resulted in the partnership being dissolved. Page subsequently teamed up with Plant for an "UnLedded" MTV project and Coverdale re-appeared from time to time with different Whitesnake line-ups.

The thunder and lightning
Seem to be having their way.
But as far as I'm concerned, it's a lovely day.
The turn in the weather
Will keep us together
So I can honestly say,
That as far as I'm concerned, it's a lovely day
Isn't this a lovely day to be caught in the rain.
You were going on your way, now you've got to remain.
Just as you were going, leaving me all at sea,
The clouds broke, they broke and oh what a break for me.
I can see the sun up high, though we're caught in a storm.
I can see where you and I could be cozy and warm.
Let the rain pitter patter
But it really doesn't matter
If the skies are gray.
Long as I can be with you, it's a lovely day.
The song "Slide It In" by Coverdale/Page begins with David Coverdale describing the weather as frightening with thunder and lightning having their way. However, he disagrees and asserts that it's still a lovely day from his perspective. He then expresses his optimism that the new weather will keep them together. In the chorus, he declares that it's a lovely day and everything's okay. The second verse begins with a rhetorical question, wondering if being caught in the rain isn't a lovely day. He then notes that his partner was leaving but got stranded by the rain, which he welcomes as a fortunate event. Despite the storm, he can see the sun and envisions them being cozy and warm together. To him, it doesn't matter if the skies are gray because as long as he is with his loved one, it's a lovely day.
Through the lyrics of "Slide It In," David Coverdale expresses the ideal of being content in the present moment with whoever we love. The weather symbolizes life's external hardships and challenges, but ultimately, what matters is the emotional connection we share with another person. A partner's accidental presence in the rain is an opportunity to cherish the time they can spend together. The end of the song implies that the rain has stopped, but the love and affection will continue to be with them.
