Hailing from Southern California, Covette formed in mid-2004 and the band wrote and recorded the 6 song EP known as Spar With The Truth in early 2005 but it was not released. The band began looking for a new guitar player shortly after the recording of Spar With The Truth. The band did not have to look far.
Shayley Bourget was filling the guitarist spot at that time and wanted his full focus to be on vocals. The line up in 2005 became complete after Sebastian Kerravcic joined the band. Covette began playing more shows and expanding their local fan base. After a few local shows, The Showcase Theatre became their hometown venue. The band began to gain more recognition and endorsements from companies like, Exodus Clothing and Dimensions Clothing. In late 2005, Covette performed again at Showcase Theatre in Corona. The show ended up being more important than they realized because an A&R representative from Record Collection spin-off, Science Records was watching. After close contact with the label the band signed to Science Records in December of 2005. The band left for their first tour on April 27th 2006 with Greeley Estates. The Far From the Lies tour also included So They Say, Yesterdays Rising, and The Stiletto Formal. While on tour, the EP was officially released on May 4th.
After finishing The Far From The Lies tour, the band came home and began writing for their upcoming full length. They began to progress and become tighter as a band and as friends. The bandโs sound began maturing into its own unique resonance. During the writing process for the record the band did a few more tours with label mates Greeley Estates. On December of 2006 the band began recording demos for a full-length with Todd Parker (Taking Back Sunday and A Static Lullaby). With their more developed sound and a new line up, consisting of Raul Martinez on drums, Sebastian Kerravcic on guitar, Shayley Bourget on guitar and vocals and Jordan Wooley on bass, the band took off on their first Canadian tour on April of 2007. Returning from that tour the band went straight into the studio with producer Cameron Webb (The Warriors, Over it, Lit, Motorhead,1997, Park) and singer/song writer Jonah Matranga (Far, One Line Drawing, Gratitude). The band spent 2 months at Hurley studios in Costa Mesa sharing ideas and arrangements. The band recorded 14 songs,12 which was featured on the full length โMachines Are Taking Overโ.
Covette broke up shortly after Machines Are Taking Over in 2008. Science Records quit production as well, leaving the album never to actually be released physically. The album was released on iTunes on April 14, 2008 with an error on the song "Two By Two". A Greeley Estates song was put in its place and labeled as "Two By Two" believed to be an error by the record label. Within a week the release was taken off the iTunes store with intention of fixing the error, but it was never re-uploaded.
Shayley moved on to be the bassist/singer of Of Mice And Men and after that the band Dayshell with Raul and Jordan. Sebastian went on to play in Belle Epoque.

In The Mood
Covette Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I want to make this happen
Her sense of style has an evil vile
That brings chance to roulette
The crowded place between inner space
Leaves room for being human
Those stormy eyes act so surprised when in the moment
The final stroke of midnight calls
The whole galaxy turns
I fear the worst is yet to come
And the creator of this obscene clarity
Stand up say I
The whole galaxy turns
I fear the worst is yet to come
She's got the moves no need to improve on that illumination
I cant describe this feeling inside when she moves in closer
The pressed skin takes me within a place thought was never real
So paralyzing art of disguising herself in to me
Cause guys like us are not anything at all, guys like us are exercise
The whole galaxy turns
I fear the worst is yet to come
And the creator of this obscene clarity
Stand up say I
The whole galaxy turns
I fear the worst is yet to come
And the creator of this obscene clarity
Stand up say I
The nails scraping my back
With all these emotions we cant keep controlling
Lets bury ourselves from within
Lover lay down
The final stroke of midnight calls
Now she's in the mood yeah
The whole galaxy turns
I fear the worst is yet to come
And the creator of this obscene clarity
Stand up say I
The whole galaxy turns
I fear the worst is yet to come
And the creator of this obscene clarity
Stand up say I
The nails scraping my back
The lyrics of Corvette's "In The Mood" convey a deep desire for a woman who exudes a sense of mystery and danger. The song opens with the image of the woman's hair all tangled close, suggesting a certain intimacy and closeness. The singer wants to make something happen with her, but her sense of style has an "evil vile" quality that adds an element of unpredictability - like the spin of a roulette wheel - to the encounter. In the crowded space where they find themselves, there's room for being human, but the woman's stormy eyes act surprised when they're in the moment, hinting at a complexity and depth that the singer finds irresistible. As the final stroke of midnight calls, the question is whether she's in the mood.
Throughout the song, the imagery evokes a sense of being swept up in a larger current of passion and desire - the whole galaxy turns, and the singer fears the worst is yet to come. There's a sense of the unpredictable, the unknown, that adds to the excitement of the encounter. But there's also a certain fear: who is the creator of this "obscene clarity" that's taking control? In the end, the singer is left with a feeling of being consumed by this experience - the nails scratching his back, the need to bury themselves from within. It's an intense, visceral experience that leaves a mark.
