Hailing from Southern California, Covette formed in mid-2004 and the band wrote and recorded the 6 song EP known as Spar With The Truth in early 2005 but it was not released. The band began looking for a new guitar player shortly after the recording of Spar With The Truth. The band did not have to look far.
Shayley Bourget was filling the guitarist spot at that time and wanted his full focus to be on vocals. The line up in 2005 became complete after Sebastian Kerravcic joined the band. Covette began playing more shows and expanding their local fan base. After a few local shows, The Showcase Theatre became their hometown venue. The band began to gain more recognition and endorsements from companies like, Exodus Clothing and Dimensions Clothing. In late 2005, Covette performed again at Showcase Theatre in Corona. The show ended up being more important than they realized because an A&R representative from Record Collection spin-off, Science Records was watching. After close contact with the label the band signed to Science Records in December of 2005. The band left for their first tour on April 27th 2006 with Greeley Estates. The Far From the Lies tour also included So They Say, Yesterdays Rising, and The Stiletto Formal. While on tour, the EP was officially released on May 4th.
After finishing The Far From The Lies tour, the band came home and began writing for their upcoming full length. They began to progress and become tighter as a band and as friends. The band’s sound began maturing into its own unique resonance. During the writing process for the record the band did a few more tours with label mates Greeley Estates. On December of 2006 the band began recording demos for a full-length with Todd Parker (Taking Back Sunday and A Static Lullaby). With their more developed sound and a new line up, consisting of Raul Martinez on drums, Sebastian Kerravcic on guitar, Shayley Bourget on guitar and vocals and Jordan Wooley on bass, the band took off on their first Canadian tour on April of 2007. Returning from that tour the band went straight into the studio with producer Cameron Webb (The Warriors, Over it, Lit, Motorhead,1997, Park) and singer/song writer Jonah Matranga (Far, One Line Drawing, Gratitude). The band spent 2 months at Hurley studios in Costa Mesa sharing ideas and arrangements. The band recorded 14 songs,12 which was featured on the full length “Machines Are Taking Over”.
Covette broke up shortly after Machines Are Taking Over in 2008. Science Records quit production as well, leaving the album never to actually be released physically. The album was released on iTunes on April 14, 2008 with an error on the song "Two By Two". A Greeley Estates song was put in its place and labeled as "Two By Two" believed to be an error by the record label. Within a week the release was taken off the iTunes store with intention of fixing the error, but it was never re-uploaded.
Shayley moved on to be the bassist/singer of Of Mice And Men and after that the band Dayshell with Raul and Jordan. Sebastian went on to play in Belle Epoque.

Night Vision
Covette Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Taking control of this night vision infra red
I prefer clear eyes instead
Am I insane, what have I done?
Cause my hands will not lie to me
Angel of shame, come from above
And take me away from this place
The knife is driving
Deep inside your body
Taking all life
Of this night vision infra red
I prefer clear eyes instead
Am I insane, what have I done?
Cause my hands will not lie to me
Angel of shame, come from above
And take me away from this place
Can't this go back to the old ways
Before all of these head control mind games
cutting, killing pawning
I cant believe so why cant I be free
Go back save yourself
I don't believe so when can I be free

The lyrics of Covette's song "Night Vision" depict a struggle with inner demons and a desire for clarity and freedom. The first verse describes the feeling of losing control as something crawls inside the singer's mind, taking over their "night vision infra red." This could represent a mental or emotional struggle, as if the singer is being haunted by their own thoughts or past experiences. The line "I prefer clear eyes instead" suggests a desire for a clear mind and the ability to see things clearly.
The chorus seems to question the singer's sanity, asking "Am I insane, what have I done?" But the hands "will not lie," implying perhaps that the singer has taken some kind of action or made a decision that they believe to be true to themselves. The "Angel of shame" could be a reference to guilt or regret, something the singer wants to be taken away from.
In the second verse, the imagery becomes more violent, with a knife plunging "deep inside your body" and taking "all life." This could represent the singer's desire to purge themselves of something harmful or destructive, though it's unclear what that might be. The third verse seems to call for a return to simpler times, before the singer was caught up in "head control mind games" and feeling trapped by their circumstances.
Overall, the lyrics of "Night Vision" depict a struggle for clarity, freedom, and control over one's own thoughts and actions. The use of violent imagery suggests that this struggle is a difficult and painful one, but ultimately the singer seems to be searching for a way out.

Am I insane, what have I done?
The artist questions their own sanity and actions due to the influence they feel, unsure of what they may have done under this control.

The knife is driving
This line can represent either physical violence, with a knife being used to harm someone, or mental anguish, as if a knife is stabbing into the artist's psyche.
Deep inside your body
If interpreted as physical violence, this line describes the knife penetrating deeply into the victim's body. If interpreted as mental anguish, it could describe how these feelings are deeply affecting the artist.
Taking all life
This line further emphasizes the destructive nature of the knife, as it is taking away the victim's life force or the artist's mental well-being.
Of this night vision infra red
The same red-tinted night vision imagery from earlier is used here to show how the knife is causing a distorted, unclear view of reality.
I prefer clear eyes instead

The singer longs for a time when things were simpler and without the influence that they currently feel.

I cant believe so why cant I be free
The artist cannot believe that they are in this situation and wonders why they cannot break free from the influence they feel.
Go back save yourself
The artist urges anyone else who may be going through a similar experience to remove themselves from it and find a way to save themselves.
