1.) An American southern country rock band from Jacksonville, Florida who released four albums through legendary Capricorn Records label in 1970ÂŽs. They are probably best remembered from the song âPlease Be With Meâ which Eric Clapton covered in his 461 Ocean Boulevard album.
Cowboys were put together in 1969 by Scott Boyer and Tommy Talton. Members had previously been in the bands 31st Of February and We The People. Cowboy was signed to Capricorn Records and shared the stage with The Allman Brothers Band. After getting Taltons old friend, Tom Wynn to play drums, George Clark on bass and Bill Pillmore on keyboards they were all soon living in a house together in Jacksonville, practicing day and night.
Duane Allman recommended the band to Phil Walden, who signed them to his legendary Capricorn Records label. Cowboy released their debut album âReach for the Skyâ in 1970 and soon after they headed to Muscle Shoals studios to work on their sophomore album, Fiveâll Getcha Ten. In 1973 Cowboy released Why Quit When Youâre Losing?, toured with the Allman Brothers Band with new drummer, Bill Stewart, after which, Boyer, along with Talton, was recruited as members of the Capricorn rhythm section. Cowboy was also the backup band for Gregg Allmanâs 1974 On Tour album.
2.) A rapper who was involved with Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. Many people often think of Melle Mel when Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five is mentioned, but along with Scorpio, Cowboy was the backbone of the group. Unfortunately, he died on September 8, 1989 at the age of 38.

And I don't want to be walking on my own
The opening lyrics of Cowboy's song "Opening" speak to the idea that language and communication hold little value when faced with the greater forces of the universe. Time is an all-consuming entity that renders words meaningless and impotent, as it moves forward without regard for human affairs. The singer seems to be contemplating the transience of life, and the futility of trying to harness it through language. They express a desire for connection, but not in isolation â they do not want to walk alone.
The theme of the song seems to revolve around the human condition of isolation and our desire to connect with others. Despite the inefficacy of language and the indifference of time, the singer still longs for companionship in their journey through life. The opening lines of the song set the stage for the exploration of these themes, and resonate with anyone who has grappled with the fleeting nature of existence and the need for meaningful relationships.
