Overall Meaning

The song "Something" by Craig David and Artful Dodger is an upbeat dance track with repetitive lyrics that emphasize a feeling of being taken over. The first verse repeats the phrase "Um taking over" four times, followed by the chorus which states that nothing can stop the feeling that is taking over. The lyrics suggest a loss of control, as if the singer is being possessed by this feeling that they cannot resist.

The chorus reinforces the idea that this feeling is real and cannot be stopped. The repetition of "something's taking over" throughout the song serves to emphasize the power of this feeling. The bridge section breaks away from the repetition with the lines "Who can stop this feeling / Taking yeah." Here, the singer seems to be reaching out for help in resisting this feeling, but ultimately succumbs to it.

The song's lyrics are fairly straightforward, but the repetition and intensity of the chorus make it a memorable dance hit. It's possible to interpret the song as a commentary on the power of music and dance to take over our emotions and bodies, but it's also possible to enjoy the song simply for its catchy beat and fun lyrics.
