Morgan was born in Kingston Springs, Tennessee and grew up in rural Tennessee. He became an Emergency medical technician at age 18. A few years later, he joined the Army and was stationed in South Korea. He would later see combat as part of Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. During his deployment in Korea, Morgan wrote a number of songs and won various military singing and songwriting contests. He is a vocal supporter of the US military, performing for service-personnel in the Middle East and elsewhere.
Upon his return home to Tennessee, he worked various jobs to support his family, including working as a construction worker, a security guard and a sheriff's deputy. He would later land a job in Nashville singing demos for other songwriters and publishing companies.
The demos led to releasing his first album with Atlantic Records, the self-titled Craig Morgan in 2000. In 2003, Morgan signed with Broken Bow Records and released his second album, I Love It. It featured the single "Almost Home", which broke into the Top 10 and earned Morgan a Songwriter Achievement Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
In 2005, Morgan released his third album, My Kind of Livin', which included the smash hit "That's What I Love About Sunday." A four-week number one hit in the early spring of 2005, it was the biggest country music song of that year according to Billboard. The album also included the #2 hit "Redneck Yacht Club". Also included was "I Got You", which Craig had originally penned for Keith Urban, but decided to cut himself instead. "Little Bit Of Life", the lead-off single and title track of his fourth album, is currently climbing the charts.

What's been goin' on
I know it's been a while
Since I've written home
I like my new job
Sure, I like this town
But I finally got me something to write home about
[Chorus]
She's got long blond hair and deep blue eyes
She likes her music loud and walkin' in the moonlight
She laughs sometimes, sometimes until she cries
Oh mom I'm in love and dad I'm sure you'd be proud
'Cause I finally got me something to write home about
I got that raise in pay
Now I ain't just gettin' by
Looks like I'm on my way
I guess I must be livin' right
Oh, if my old friends
Could only see me now
'Cause I finally got me something to write home about
[Chorus]
Tag
Yeah, mom I'm in love and dad I'm sure you'd be proud
'Cause I've finally got me something to write home about
That girl is something
Yeah, she's something
Craig Morgan's song Something to Write Home About is a heartwarming tale of a young man who has finally found something worth writing home about. He begins by telling his parents that it's been a while since he last wrote to them, but that he has some news to share. He tells them that he likes his new job and the town he is in, but what he's really excited about is his newfound love.
He goes on to describe the girl in great detail, with her long blond hair and deep blue eyes, and how she likes loud music and walking in the moonlight. He explains how she also has a great sense of humor and sometimes laughs until she cries. He is proud of his new love and sure that his dad would be proud of him too.
The second verse tells of how he has received a pay raise at work, which means that he's no longer just getting by. He feels like he's finally on his way in life and that he must be doing something right. He wishes that his old friends could see him now, as he's finally got something to write home about.
The chorus then repeats, describing his new love and how proud he is of her. He ends the song with a tagline, saying that the girl is something special, and that he's finally got something to write home about.
Overall, Something to Write Home About is a song about finding love and success in life, and how important it is to share those experiences with the people we love.
