WOMEN
Crass Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fuck is women's money.
We pay with our bodies.
There is no purity in our love.
No beauty. Just bribery.
It's all the fucking same.
We make soldiers with our submission.
Wars with our isolation.
Fuck is women's money.
We pay with our bodies.
There no purity in motherhood.
No beauty. Just bribery.
It's all the fucking same.
We are all slaves to sexual histories.
Our awareness of whoredom can be release.

War is mens money.
They pay with their bodies.
There is no purity in that game,
Only blood, death and bribery.
It's all the fucking same.
But we've got the power.

Don't just stand there and take submission on the strength of fear.
FIGHT WAR, NOT WARS.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Crass's song Women reflect a powerful critique of the way women's bodies and sexuality are exploited by society. The opening lines "Fuck is women's money. We pay with our bodies" explicitly link sexual activity with power dynamics and suggest that women are often forced to trade their bodies for social and economic status. This is further emphasized in the lines "There is no purity in our love. No beauty. Just bribery" which suggest that love and affection are also commodified and used as tools of control.

The song goes on to suggest that women's bodies are also used to create and perpetuate the violence of war, as seen in the lines "We make soldiers with our submission. Wars with our isolation." This suggests that the oppression of women is not just a personal issue, but one that is deeply intertwined with political and social structures.

The song also challenges traditional notions of motherhood, with the lines "There no purity in motherhood. No beauty. Just bribery." This reflects the idea that women are not inherently maternal, but are instead pressured into taking on this role as a means of conforming to societal expectations.

Overall, the lyrics to Women are a powerful critique of the ways in which women's bodies and sexuality are used to enforce social norms and political power dynamics. They suggest that the struggle for women's liberation is part of a larger struggle against violence and oppression, and that true freedom requires an end to war and militarism.

It seems like a lot of people don't like this song but this is one of my favorites! Crass was all about the message and the cause. As a feminist, I respect and love them so much for bringing much needed awareness to women's issues, especially in the male dominated punk community. Screaming babies: we women have been conditioned by society to shave our bodies, just 1 example of the soft power the patriarchal world exerts over women. Shaved bodies=screaming babies=KEEPING US IN OUR PLACE.

@Boilingfrogg

You advocate in killing babies. You are the cancer โ™‹ feminism IS cancer !
