I Don't Believe It
Crazy Horse Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can tell by your eyes
That you've probably been cryin' forever
And the stars in the sky
Don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror

I don't wanna talk about it
How you broke my heart
If I stay here just a little bit longer
If I stay here, won't you listen to my heart?
Whoa, whoa, heart

If I stand all alone
Will the shadow hide the color of my heart?
Blue for the tears, black for the nights we're apart
And the stars
Don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror

I don't wanna talk about it
How you broke my heart
If I stay here just a little bit longer
If I stay here, won't you listen to my heart?
Whoa, whoa, heart
My heart
Whoa, whoa, heart

I don't wanna talk about it
How you broke my heart
If I stay here just a little bit longer
If I stay here, won't you listen to my heart?
Whoa, whoa, heart
My heart
Whoa, whoa, heart

My heart
Whoa, whoa, heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "I Don't Want to Talk About It" by Crazy Horse convey a sense of heartbreak and longing for someone who has left the singer's life. The opening lines of the song reveal that the person has been crying for a long time and feels disconnected from the world around them. The next stanza deals with the color and shadow of the singer's heart and how it has been affected by the separation from the other person. The refrain of "I don't want to talk about it" is repeated several times throughout the song, emphasizing the difficulty of discussing the heartache and pain caused by the loss of a loved one. Overall, the song is about the raw emotions that come with a broken heart and the desire to hold onto a connection that has been lost.

Aside from its emotional impact, the song has also had an interesting history. Originally written by the British singer-songwriter Danny Whitten, it was first recorded by his band Crazy Horse in 1971. However, it was the Rod Stewart cover of the song in 1975 that became a hit, reaching the number one spot in the UK charts. Stewart later included the song on his 1989 greatest hits album, and it has since been covered by numerous other artists including Everything but the Girl, Rita Coolidge, and Julio Iglesias.

Puedo saber por tus ojos
Que probablemente has llorado por siempre
Y las estrellas en el cielo
No significan nada para ti, son un espejo.

No quiero hablar de eso
Como rompistes mi corazon
Si me quedo aqui un poquito mas
Si me quedo aqui, no escucharas a mi corazon?
Oh, mi corazon.

Si me quedo totalmente solo

Si me quedo aqui, no escucharas a mi corazon?
Oh, mi corazon.

No quiero hablar de esto
Como rompiste este viejo corazon
Si me quedo aqui un poquito mas
Si me quedo aqui, no escucharas a mi corazon?
Oh, mi corazon.

Crazy Horse's version is by far the best. I could never get though the whole song without shedding a few tears. R.I.Paradise Danny Whitten.

@Danilo Pinezer cuz you don't listen to you heart

Tom Formanek

Nils Lofgren did a short sojourn with the group, playing on After The Gold Rush (rythym on Tell Me Why). Nils plays rythym here too, Whitten lead and the great Ry Cooder on slide. Nils does the heartbreaking harmony too.

Not long after he joined some bar band at the Jersey Shore and was never heard from again...lol.

Danny Whitten was destined to being fired by Neil Young, who gave him $50 and a plane ticket home. That night Danny died from an OD of Valium and alcohol. Having lost the gig of a lifetime, he bottomed out and lost his life instead of getting help. The driving sound of Everybody Knows This is Nowhere was lost forever, as well as the tender soul who could write this masterpiece.

@Tom Formanek Thank you. The guitars are wonderful and I always love to know who is playing. I wish YouTubers would list personnel more often!

After all these years of being a Neil Young and Crazy Horse fan I'm just finding out that Danny Whitten wrote this song. What a masterpiece. Danny had many drug issues brought on by painful arthritis, RIP bro.

The song was unfinished and Danny Whitten wouldn’t record it until Nils Lofgren finished it off
