Dreaming
Cream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dreaming about my love
You bring me joy and hours of happiness
More or less
I dream my life away

Waiting for you to come
Changing my life for you to emptiness
Meaningless
Minutes just drift by

I don't care if I get nowhere
I can just dream and you'll be there
What else is there to do?

Dreaming about my life
Where are you now
And when will you come to me?
I dream my life away

I don't care if I get nowhere
I can just dream and you'll be there
What else is there to do?

Dreaming about my love
You bring me joy and hours of happiness
More or less
I dream my life away

Dreaming

Overall Meaning

The song "Dreaming" by Cream is a melancholic yet beautiful portrayal of longing for love and the power of imagination to fill the gaps of loneliness. The first stanza sets the tone for the rest of the song by expressing a deep sense of joy and happiness associated with the experience of being in love. However, this joy is accompanied by a longing that arises in the absence of one's beloved. This longing takes the singer into a world of dreams, where the moments that were once shared with the other person come alive.

The second stanza expresses the moment of realization that comes after much waiting - the realization that the other person may not return to fill the emptiness that one feels. Despite this, the singer is content with just dreaming because that is the only way to remain close to their beloved. By dreaming, they are transported to a world where they are happy, and the pain of separation disappears. There is a sense of surrender in this stanza - that the singer is willing to accept their fate to be alone as long as they can continue to dream.

The last stanza is a continuation of the theme of the power of imagination. The singer wonders where their beloved is, and when they will return. Yet again, this longing takes them into a world of dreams, where they can cherish the moments spent with their love. The repetition of the word 'dreaming' in this stanza accentuates the idea that the only way to cope with the pain of separation is to dream.

Overall, the song "Dreaming" captures the universal experience of being in love and the pain that comes with separation. It also highlights the power of imagination and the role it plays in our lives as a coping mechanism.

First time I heard Cream I was stoned out of my mind on LSD lying of the floor between two very large speakers, for 8 hours. These guys are the best musicians England ever produced. All Rock music after this was just was just imitation.
