N.S.U
Cream Lyrics

Driving in my car, smoking my cigar,
The only time I'm happy's when I play my guitar.

Singing in my yacht, what a lot I got,
Happiness is something that just cannot be bought.

I've been in and I'm out, I've been up and down,
I don't want to go until I've been all around.

What's it all about, anyone in doubt,
I don't want to go until I've found it all out.

To my ear & perception, what Clapton does to the syncopation from 1:42 to 1:47 is nothing less than devine...
But it's so untamed, so wild & outside, I wonder if he knew it before he articulated it, or if it was a happy accident, that steenth rest, was it a muscle memory lapse, or an experiment unhinged, or a recovery that worked? Whatever it was was brilliant, the rest of his solo is incendiary for sure, but Clapton was dancing up close to the angels for a few seconds.

@Darko Franc thank you very much

Andrew your way with the words and descriptions is also pretty divine!!

But you’re absolutely right but it’s no accident. What puts Clapton apart and far superior to any other guitarist is his use to time, syncopation , swing, I don’t know how to call it. It’s everywhere when he plays. He never starts a note when you expect him to. For this reason he is not a show off and is never boring because he always surprises us. Thank you for drawing attention to this particular passage.

It does sound like he came in late after that slide, and continued riffing on an offbeat, then recovered back at the end. However, there are old 50's electric blues riffs I've heard on Chicago blues LPs that are very similar. Regardless, it is awesome!!
