Politician
Cream Lyrics

Get into my big black car
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
I want to just show you
What my politics are
I'm a political man
I'm a political man
And I practice what I preach
So don't deny me, baby
Not while you're in my reach
I support the left
Though I'm leaning, leaning to the right
I support the left
Though I'm leaning to the right
But I'm just not there
When it's coming to a fight
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
I want to just show you
What my politics are
The lyrics of Cream's "Politician" depict a man who is confident about his political beliefs and his ability to convince others. In the song, he invites a woman to get into his car, using it as a metaphor for the power he wields as a politician. He claims to practice what he preaches and supports the left, although he admits to leaning towards the right. However, he also suggests that he is not willing to fight for his beliefs, as he is "just not there" when it comes to confrontation. The song can be interpreted as a criticism of politicians who prioritize personal gain over their constituents' well-being and values.
The song was included on Cream's 1968 album "Wheels of Fire" and was written by guitarist Eric Clapton and bassist Jack Bruce. It has been praised for its catchy riff and Clapton's guitar solos, which showcase his blues-rock style. Interestingly, the song was recorded without drummer Ginger Baker, who reportedly refused to play on it as he disliked its political message. Instead, session drummer Jim Gordon played drums on the track.

What I admire most about the brilliance of this tune is the guitar interplay between Bruce and Clapton.
It's a musical metaphor for how politicians are trend followers and Jack Bruce and Eric copy each other's licks.
Absolutely brilliant.
