Sleepy Time Time
Cream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm a sleepy time baby, a sleepy time boy.
Work only maybe, life is a joy.

We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
Sleepy time time, sleepy time all the time.

Asleep in the daytime, asleep at night.
Life is all playtime; working ain't right.

We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
Sleepy time time, sleepy time all the time.

I have my Sunday, that ain't no lie.
But on Monday morning comes my favorite cry.

We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.
We'll have a sleepy time time.

We'll have a sleepy time time.
Sleepy time time, sleepy time all the time.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cream's song "Sleepy Time Time" could be interpreted as the desire to lead a life devoid of stress and hard work. The singer refers to himself as "a sleepy time baby, a sleepy time boy." He doesn't like to work much and enjoys life as it is. He prefers to take things slow and easy, without worrying about the future. He emphasizes this by repeating the phrase "life is a joy" throughout the song.

The singer contrasts himself with those who work hard all the time. He says that he is "asleep in the daytime, asleep at night" and considers life to be a "playtime." The idea is to relax, enjoy life, and not stress out about anything. The phrase "working ain't right" reinforces this point of view.

The chorus of the song is a repeating series of lines in which the singer and his friends gather together to enjoy their lazy, relaxed lifestyle. The last verse seems to complain about the fact that the weekend is over and they must return to work. Nevertheless, the singer is optimistic about the future and is looking forward to the next time he and his friends can have "a sleepy time time."

As you can see, for a moment there nothing mattered except the music. From what these guys have been through, their trials and tribulations, none of that mattered. For a few seconds in time things seemed to float, and then they brought us back to reality. The musicianship of Cream will never be topped, never.

Jack Bruce's voice is still amazing, fantastic combination with Eric which of course is one of the greatest singers of blues ever. Ginger on drums as usual impeccable. I'm a big fan of the Gibson bass. One of the greatest 3 piece bands ever.

Possibly

@wolfkarel the hofner wins by a thin margin imo, solely because it has a bridge pickup
