The Coffee Song
Cream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a full time reservation
Made in a bar at the railway station
And there's a story, a kind of fable
On a card at the corner table
On it is a message, been there some time
It starts of, "The coffee tasted so fine"

It says, "One day, this may find you
These few words may remind you
We sat here together just to pass time
You said how the coffee tasted so fine"

It goes on to say, "I love you
If you should find this I must hear from you"
It gives a number but the name has faded away
All that is left are just the words, "Maybe someday"

That's the story and the fable
Never leave alone from a corner table

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo-doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo

Overall Meaning

The Coffee Song by Cream is a unique song that tells a short story through its lyrics. The song is about a message left on a card at a corner table in a bar at the railway station. The message tells a story that happened between two people who sat at that table and drank coffee together. The message starts off by saying that the coffee tasted so fine and goes on to say that the two people sat together to pass the time. The message also says that if the person who reads the message finds it, they should call the person who wrote the message because they love them. The message ends with the words "maybe someday," which indicates that the person who wrote the message is uncertain about whether they will see the person they love again.

The lyrics of The Coffee Song show us that life is full of fleeting moments that we should cherish. It is important to tell the people we love how we feel about them because we never know when we might lose them. The message in the song is also a reminder to treasure small moments like having coffee with a loved one. The song encourages us to slow down and appreciate the simple things in life that often go unnoticed.

@VIDJACK

the most unjustly forgotten Cream song ever. Too bad - great tune.

@metalworx4765

Agreed, bought an import version of the first album that had this song on it, played it over many times.

@WocklessGamingforAnimeMoms

@@metalworx4765I thought it was only on a 1974 Compliation,did the original British Release of the first album really include this? It's way tripper than most of the stuff of their first album is by far. I mostly just like about half of Desraeli Gears and half of Wheels of Fire (The Psych Tracks prettymuch) and not ad much Blues Cream so I might have glanced over it for that reason.

Jack Bruce had the voice of an angel, Clapton, the guitar playing of a god, and Ginger Baker, the drum-playing of Apollo meets Dionysus.

And the bass playing of a demon

@jackfletcher1000

Jack Bruce was a great blues singer, but voice like an angel. no way.

@@jackfletcher1000 An angel with balls, heh.

@@gilbertramos6039 Hey , I like that . When he sang in Falsetto ( really high)
he did sound like an angel . Like a girl , but you could still hear that
raspiness of a bloke's voice .

@mrwrister

I can never listen to this just once, always has to be three or four times in a row.
