In "Don't Be Afraid," Creature addresses a lover who, according to the lyrics, doesn't quite seem to understand the way the singer feels about them. The opening lines, "What I need is for you to smarten up / 'Cause what I need is for you to suck up," are confrontational but set the tone for a song that's ultimately about the desire for unconditional love. Creature expresses that they want this person and love them in a way "nobody wants you" or "nobody flaunts you."
