The band later grew to include lead guitarist Sam Cooper (formerly of Fraser A. Gorman) and keyboardist Jackson Dahlenburg (Tropical Snakes, Robot Fox), after relocating to Melbourne.
A much-adored EP release in 2015 saw the quintet gain supports with the likes of DIIV, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Pond’s Nicholas Allbrook, whilst earning praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, NME, Triple J and BIRP (landing a spot in their coveted 'Best of 2014' compilation), along with Bobby Alessi (of Alessi Brothers fame) for their cover of 1976 hit ‘Seabird’.
Channeling inspirations as diverse as DEVO, Gary Numan and Cass McCombs, Crepes’ retro-edged pop ranges from the jaunty, surf-glazed jangle of "Cold Summers", to the dreamy and introspective synth strains of "Size of Your Town".
Following a brief hiatus, 2017 sees Crepes reemerge with a newfound gusto and promise of a debut LP. Holding true to the quintet’s signature brand of quaint and catchy guitar-pop, Channel Four's playfully titled first offering, "Sexyland", chugs along with the zeal of a group eager to make an impression. Shimmering keys flicker over a driving rhythm and steel string slide-guitar, hinting at the band’s love of mid-‘70s rock ‘n’ roll (think Paul McCartney’s Wings, or Steely Dan’s more stripped-back moments), also evident in "9-5 Summer Breakers" and "Mild Conversation". More introspective, at times experimental, moments can be found in the cosmic-calypso of "Four Years Time" and the hazy, Numan-indebted title track, "Channel Four".
Channel Four is a nostalgic and disarmingly earnest exploration of young love, aspiration, self-doubt and lost relationships that will no doubt find a place in the hearts of those enchanted by Crepes' debut EP.
Self-produced alongside David M Turner esq. (Redspencer, Tourist Dollars), the record was fully realised with the help of Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere (Mild High Club, Charlie Hilton), and Joseph Carra (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dick Diver) on mixing and mastering duties respectively.
Channel Four is due for release in late 2017, with a first single expected to drop in June.

We make crepes A LOT! My boys absolutely love them! As we are from South Africa, we call them pancakes, but they are the same as your crepes....very thin. We have them with lots of different fillings. We regularly have crepe evenings! Then we start with some kind of savoury filling and end with one or 2 sweet ones!
I'll share our fillings with you:
*The most traditional in South Africa is cinnamon-sugar that you sprinkle all over the crepe and then roll it like a swiss roll or cigar. For me, I add the lemon juice too! It is just delicious like that!
*Caramel/Dulce de leche and banana
*Nutella and banana
*Caramel with a little whipped cream and n good sprinkle of grated/chopped mint chocolate
*Pastry cream with fresh fruit of your choice or even just some cinnamon with that (that is a play on our traditional milktart we make here)
*Your favourite preserve with a little whipped cream
*Chocolate mousse with fresh strawberries
Goodness, the sweet varieties are endless!
Savoury fillings :
*Mix grated cheese, chopped crispy bacon, finely chopped chives and a little mayonnaise
*A creamy chicken & mushroom
*Chicken & mayo (add a little curry powder and some finely diced tinned apricots for a lovely different variation)
*Savoury mince and then you top it off with a delicious cheese sauce (this one is the favourite at my house)
*Tuna, sautéed onion & green pepper mixed with white sauce or cheese sauce
*Cream cheese with salmon
*Cream cheese with salami/ham - these are ideal for a savoury platter. Roll the crepes tightly and cut in slices. They look beautiful on a platter
*use it like you would a tortilla/wrap - it is not as strong though
*use the crepes instead of pasta sheets when making a lasagna
*you can make wonderfull crepe cakes
I hope I have inspired you all to try out Carina's delicious crepes!
