Red Sharks
Crimson Glory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Trapped in their world no free passage to leave
You accept their tyrannical dream
You pray to their gods not to your chosen ones
Freedom's clutched in the jaw of red kings

Give us your freedom, we'll give you hell
Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil
Give us your freedom, we'll give you hell
Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil

Glory to red sharks
Answer to your red dictators
Feeding from your dreams
Cast into a sea of red sharks

Holding the power a hand that grips fate
Stripping from you all but fear
Hovering vultures like demons feed
On all who bow to their communist scheme

Give us your freedom, we'll give you hell
Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil
Give us your freedom, we'll give you hell
Hear no freedom, see no freedom, speak no freedom

Glory to red sharks
Answer to your red dictators
Feeding from your dreams
Cast into a sea of red sharks

Red sharks
Bloody red sharks
Red sharks

Red sharks
Bloody red sharks

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Crimson Glory's song Red Sharks speak of the oppressive nature of communism and the dangers it poses to individual freedom. The verses describe a world where people are trapped and denied the right to leave, and are forced to accept the ideology of their dictatorial rulers. The reference to praying to their gods rather than one's individual chosen ones highlights the fact that communism aims to eliminate religion and individualism, which are seen as impediments to the collective good.

The chorus repeats the ominous warning that freedom, when given up to these red sharks, leads to nothing but hell. The phrase "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" emphasizes the fear and silence that inevitably accompany such totalitarian regimes. The sharks themselves are a metaphor for the ruthless and predatory nature of communist rulers who feed on the dreams and aspirations of their people.

Drawing comparisons to vultures and demons, the lyrics describe these leaders as having the power to shape fate and strip away all but fear from their people. The chorus repeats the warning that giving up one's freedom to these ruthless rulers is a sure way of casting oneself into a sea of red sharks. Overall, the song is a stark and powerful critique of communism, its ruthless nature and the dangers it poses to individual freedoms.

This band had so much talent...Progressively they were in a league of their own. The recording on this album was incredible and it was produced amazingly in a time when there were no computers to get all the timing down perfectly for each track and each note,  like what's commonly done today in music studios. Missed this band a lot and this album had a a huge impact on me during it's time.
