Cristy Lane Lyrics

Hark! the herald angels sing, -
"Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled."
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th' angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!

Christ, by highest heaven adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favoured one.
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th'incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!

Hail! the heaven-born
Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the son of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King !"

Overall Meaning

The hymn "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," is a Christian Christmas Carol which is sung every year during Christmas. The song begins with the angels announcing the birth of a new king, and that Peace and Mild Mercy have made the world more forgiving. The song then asks all the people of the world to rise and join the triumph of the skies in proclaiming that Christ was born in Bethlehem.

The song then goes on to describe Christ as being the everlasting Lord, hailed by the highest heaven above as he comes to earth as a human. Although he is born to a favoured person, he is veiled in flesh and becomes the Godhead, pleased as a human to dwell with everyone as Emmanuel. The final verse of the song hails "the heaven-born Prince of peace!" who is bestowed with the title "Son of Righteousness!" He brings light and life to everyone and rises with healing in his wings. He is also described as laying his glory by to be born in human form so that people no longer have to die but to raise as the children of earth.

In essence, this song is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and an expression of faith in his life and teachings. This carol is not only considered a quintessential Christmas song but has also been viewed as a unique piece of English church music.
