Innan foglarna började sjunga
Bergatrollet friade till fager ungersven
Hon hade en falskeliger tunga
Eder vill jag gifva de gångare tolf
Som gå uti rosendelunde
Aldrig har det varit någon sadel uppå dem
Ej heller betsel uti munnen
För det jag bjuder så gerna
I kunnen väl svara endast ja eller nej
Om i viljen eller ej:
Eder vill jag gifva ett förgyllande svärd
Som klingar utaf femton guldringar
Och strida huru I strida vill
Stridsplatsen skolen i väl vinna
: Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig
: Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig
För det jag bjuder så gerna
I kunnen väl svara endast ja eller nej
Om i viljen eller ej:
Bergatrollet ut på dörren sprang
Hon rister och jämrar sig svåra
Hade jag fått den fager ungersven
Så hade jag mistat min plåga
: Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig
För det jag bjuder så gerna
I kunnen väl svara endast ja eller nej
Om i viljen eller ej:
The lyrics to Cromdale's song "Herr Mannelig" tell the story of a troll woman who proposes marriage to a young man, Herr Mannelig. She offers him many gifts, including twelve horses that have never been ridden before and a sword with fifteen golden rings that will make him victorious in battle. But Herr Mannelig refuses her proposal, telling her that he would accept such gifts from a Christian woman but not a troll woman who serves the devil. The troll woman is heartbroken and runs out of the door, wailing that she would have lost her misery if she had only been able to marry Herr Mannelig.
The song is actually a medieval ballad from Sweden, originally sung a capella in the Swedish language. The lyrics have been translated into many different languages over the centuries and the melody has been adapted by various musicians. The story is a classic example of troll folklore, in which trolls are often depicted as scary but powerful creatures who try to seduce humans into their world. The ballad highlights the theme of temptation and the consequences of giving into it.

Was exactly the same for me. First time heard it in the game Gothic, way back when I was about 14 and it started my journey into this kind of music and metal in general. One could say a defining moment of my life :D
