The trio's first eponymous album was released in May 1969 and was an immediate hit, spawning two Top 40 hit singles and receiving key airplay on the new FM radio format.
In late summer 1969, the trio expanded to a quartet with Neil Young with the name changing to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (commonly referred to by their initials CSNY).
In the years since, they have reformed as Crosby, Stills & Nash for several albums and tours.

Blackbird
Crosby Stills & Nash Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird fly,
Blackbird fly
Into the light
Of the dark black night
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
The hauntingly beautiful song "Blackbird" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash, is a call to action for those who are feeling helpless, broken, or trapped. The blackbird represents a symbol of freedom, and the lyrics encourage listeners to take their broken wings and learn how to fly. The first verse tells the blackbird to use its broken wings to fly, encouraging those who are suffering to not let their struggles hold them back. The second verse asks the blackbird to take its sunken eyes and learn how to see, which can be interpreted as learning to see the world in a different way or changing one's perspective. The chorus repeats the words, "Blackbird fly, blackbird fly into the light of the dark black night," urging the listener to take a leap of faith and go towards the unknown. The final repetition of "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" is a reminder that the listener has the potential to break free and achieve their dreams.

David Crosby...
Few people in our lives are this iconic.
Undeniably talented and will live forever through the music of CSN(Y).
Got to see him at the Beacon Theatre in NYC 2014. Magic!
CSN, Eagles, Stones, the Dead and the Beatles before them.
There is now greater music in heaven than there was before.
Safe travels until you return to us in the next life.
