PLEASE
Crosby Bing Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lend your little ear to my pleas
Lend a ray of cheer to my pleas
Tell me that you love me too
Please
Let me hold you tight in my arms
I could find delight in your charmsEvery night my whole life through
Your eyes reveal that you have the soul of
An angel white as snow
How long must I play the role of
A gloomy Romeo?
Oh, please
Say you're not intending to tease
Speed that happy ending and please
Tell me that you love me too
Your eyes reveal that you have the soul of
An angel white as snow
How long must I play the role of
A gloomy Romeo?
Oh, please
Say you're not intending to tease
Speed that happy ending and please
Tell me that you love me too
In "Please," Bing Crosby sings to someone he is infatuated with, hoping that they return his feelings. The song has a melancholic undertone, with Crosby feeling gloomy and playing the role of a "Romeo" without reciprocity. Crosby pleads with this person to listen to his pleas and lend a ray of cheer to his life by telling him that they love him too.
The lyrics also suggest Crosby's reverence for this person's piety and purity. He admires their angelic soul and hopes to find delight in their charms every night of his life. However, Crosby fears that this person may be teasing him or not taking his feelings seriously, which he finds frustrating. He begs them to speed up this happy ending he has been waiting for and to tell him that they love him too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Please_Please_Me_(song) "Lennon first conceived "Please Please Me" as a bluesy, slow tempo song.
Lennon recalled: "I remember the day I wrote it, I heard Roy Orbison doing "Only the Lonely", or something. And I was also always intrigued by the words to a Bing Crosby
song that went, 'Please lend a little ear to my pleas'. The double use
of the word 'please'. So it was a combination of Roy Orbison and Bing
Crosby".[7]" Now you know.

Strange how your memory canĀ be awakened.Ā But when I nowĀ hear this song for the firstĀ time since high school (1948) , I think of my classmate Vinny Munro. Even though a teenager he could do a great imitation of the 1920's Der BingleĀ singing this song. Ā Such a pleasant memory
