Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
Crosby Bing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, you know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,
(Comet, and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen)
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Talkin' 'bout Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph, look here Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then how the reindeer loved him
And they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history

I'm Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
I got a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows, like a rose
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas eve
Santa came to say
Say Rudolph, I say, I say Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then how the reindeer loved me
As they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history

I'm Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,

I'm Comet, and Cupid, and Donner, I'm something
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Crosby Bing's song Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer tells the story of Rudolph, a reindeer with a unique physical characteristic - a red, shiny nose - that makes him the subject of ridicule and isolation from the other reindeer. As the song goes on, we learn that Santa Claus enlists Rudolph's help as a guide for his sleigh on a foggy Christmas eve. Rudolph accepts the request and his actions ultimately lead to him being loved and accepted by not only Santa Claus but also the other reindeer who were previously cruel to him. The repetition of Rudolph's name throughout the song is used to emphasize his newfound prominence and recognition.

The song is a heartwarming tale of acceptance and embracing one's differences. The lyrics serve to convey the message that one should not be ashamed of their unique characteristics and that ultimately, it is these differences that make us special and worthy of celebration. The song's message of inclusivity and diversity has made it a popular Christmas classic that resonates with audiences of all ages.

Impossible not to feel happy listening to Bing Crosby.

@winterweib

This is the best version in my eyes. I got it on a record many many years ago; I was a toddler, it was in the Sixties. Someone had bought the record in the U.S. And I never got it again on an other record! It wasn't added on the german version of his Christmas album, and everytime I bought a record with this song, it wasn't THIS. And finally, I lost my old record when moving :(
I only found it on ONE CD after many years, after I had stopped searching. It was pure accident^^. And now I am happy ProxTube gave it to me here :) Thank you this much for the upload! Have a very good Christmas. Greets from Berlin :)

@OctasLP

Thats True

@emg8810

Agreed. One problem: Bing turned down the song, then Autry sang it for a big HIT. Bing had a knack for turning down a lot of great songs.
