Sweet And Lovely
Crosby Bing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sweet and lovely sweeter than the roses in May
Sweet and lovely heaven must have sent her my way
Skies above me never were as blue as her eyes
And she loves me, who would want a sweeter surprise

When she nestles in my arms so tenderly
There's a thrill that words cannot express
In my heart a song of love is taunting me, melody, haunting me
Sweet and lovely sweeter than the roses in May
And she loves me, there is nothing more I can say

Sweet and lovely sweeter than the roses in May
Sweet and lovely heaven must have sent her my way
Skies above me never were as blue as her eyes
And she loves me, who would want a sweeter surprise

When she nestles in my arms so tenderly
There's a thrill that words cannot express
In my heart a song of love is taunting me, melody, haunting me

Sweet and lovely sweeter than the roses in May
And she loves me, there is nothing more I can say

Overall Meaning

Crosby Bing's song Sweet and Lovely is a tribute to a woman who is more than just beautiful - she is irresistible. The lyrics describe her as being sweeter than the roses in May and a gift from heaven. The singer is in love with her, and the skies have never been as blue as her eyes. The woman he loves nestles in his arms, and there is a thrill that words cannot express. The melody of love is taunting him, and he cannot get her out of his mind.

The sweet and lovely woman is the focus of the song, and the lyrics celebrate her beauty and the love between the singer and his beloved. The singer is saying that this woman is his treasured possession, and he cannot imagine anyone else having her. The song's melody is just as catchy as its lyrics, and it is easy to get lost in the tune's dreamy vibe.

This Brunswick disc confirms what Crosby wrote in his biography about his early recordings. He said that on most of them, his voice was hoarse from singing too much and partying too much. While filming scenes from "The King of Jazz," he was jailed for drunken driving, which he confirmed at the 05:32 timing mark in this 1972 interview:

I guess all 67 of us remember this; but I think it was in a movie with June Allyson and Robert Walker, don't remember the name of it

@leelarson107

Are you thinking of June Allyson starring in 'Two Girls And A Sailor', in 1944, in which The Maestro Harry James played a lush version of the song? It was also the closing theme with June, Harry, and Gloria DeHaven together.

I'm sorry but I like russ columbos

@leelarson107

I was never wild about crooners from that period, but I would side with you and take Russ Columbo over Bing Crosby. I never liked Bing Crosby anyway.

@@leelarson107 We are in the minority!....

@MadMomma-kj9ks

I like the Irving Kaufman version best. Bing must have been to bird land the day he recorded this…
