Never Be The Same
Cross Christopher Lyrics

It was good for you
Now nothing either of us can say or do
Can change the way you feel tonight
Sometimes love just slips out of sight
Just one thing before you go
Just one thing that you've got to know
The way that you did that very first day
And I'll never be the same without you here
I'll live alone and hide myself behind my tears
And I'll never be the same without your love
I'll live alone and try so hard to rise above
The years go by
There's always someone new
To try and help me forget about you
Time and again, it does me no good
Love never feels the way that it should
I loved you then, I guess I'll love you forever
And even though I know we could never stay together
I'll think of how it could have been
If we could just start all over again
And I'll never be the same without you here
I'll live alone and hide myself behind my tears
And I'll never be the same without your love
I'll live alone and try so hard to rise above
It was good for me
It was good for you
Now nothing either of us can say or do
Can change the way you feel today
Sometimes love just slips away
Just one thing before you go
Just one thing that you've got to know
No one will ever touch me that way
The way that you did that very first day
And I'll never be the same without you here
I'll live alone and hide myself behind my tears
And I'll never be the same without your love
I'll live alone and try so hard to rise above
Repeat Chorus and fade
The lyrics of Cross Christopher’s song “Never Be The Same” is a melancholic expression of an ended relationship that the singer cannot forget. Despite knowing that the romance is over and there is no chance of reconciliation, the singer reminisces how good they were for each other in the past. She acknowledges that although nothing they say or do now can sway the other’s feelings or fill the void, she still holds onto the memory of how they once "touched" each other's lives. She repeats this sentiment several times, indicating how deeply the memory of the relationship is ingrained in her. The singer feels that she is living a different life without her partner, hiding her pain behind tears, and living alone while struggling to forget her strong feelings for her past love.
As the years pass, the singer begins new relationships to cope, but the familiar feelings of love and contentment never return, further compounding her pain. The lyrics express that the singer accepts the reality that they cannot come back together, but still holds onto the fantasy of how things could have turned out if they did. The song ends on a sorrowful note, reiterating the singer’s sentiments and how they will never be the same without their past partner.
In conclusion, Cross Christopher’s song “Never Be The Same” is a poignant expression of a relationship’s aftermath, how it leaves an indelible etching in our hearts, and how it impacts our lives even after it ends. The song reminds that one cannot erase the feelings of a lost love, but they can try to move on, accepting the reality.

My 42 year old son just told me this morning how much he loved the cassette of this music when he was little and we were driving around in my station wagon. I never knew this until this song came on Sirius radio this morning! It made me very happy to know this. Something so simple 😀

I..I turned 4 in 1983. In the mid '90s working at my local Kmart I discovered Christopher Cross. I made $5.15 an hour, but found a legend. I guess it works out??
