King Of Kings

[Lyrics by Mark Theunssens]
[Adaptations by Crusader]

In this time
When brother poisons brother
To secure his grip on the throne
Kings believe lies told by others
Since long their hearts have turned to stone

Do we look to anyone who bothers
Before this kingdom will be torn apart
Do we pray to the holy mother
To find us a king who is pure of heart

Stop the clansmen fighting
We are king of kings
A mighty warrior, pure of heart
King of kings
The legends write my name in blood
King of kings
The land will soon be free

Don't fall for monks
And their sermons
Empty words do not sooth the pain
Nor do they fill our hungry bellies
Or provide shelter from the rain

Now the king... is slowly dying
Greedy lords rape the land like a whore
Loyal servants are mourning, crying
While they drink the spit from the floor

People survive... on bread and water
In the court they're drunk from the feast

The king has died and his son succeeds him
The line of tyrants provides another beast

Overall Meaning

The song "King of Kings" by Crusader is a powerful commentary on the politics and corruption of monarchy. The opening lines set the stage for a world where brothers betray each other for power, and kings trust others who spread lies. The imagery of their hearts turning to stone paints a bleak picture of a world where greed and power reign supreme. The question is asked if anyone will step up to save this kingdom from tearing itself apart, and whether the holy mother can guide people to find a leader who is pure of heart.

The chorus of the song calls for unity in the face of chaos, with a rallying cry to "stop the clansmen fighting." The king of kings is hailed as a mighty warrior who is pure of heart and whose name will be written in blood. The land will soon be free, free from the tyranny and corruption that has held it down for so long.

The final verse takes a darker turn, as the singer warns against falling for the lies of monks who offer empty words but no real comfort. The king is dying, and the land is being pillaged by greedy lords. Loyal servants are left to mourn while surrounded by a court of drunken revelers. When the king finally dies, he is succeeded by another tyrant, perpetuating the cycle of corruption and oppression.

Overall, "King of Kings" is a powerful commentary on the corrupting effects of power and the need for true leadership in a world full of lies and betrayal.

@Nictator42

So the mamluks will actually have a reason to form Egypt finally? Hopefully the AI will actually take this decision so that the middle east doesn't look identical every game now

@CommunistLlama

They still have to survive that long tho

@Dr3dinn

So true, it was never worth it to lose the mamluks special abilities

@Aquilusify

Very excited for this, about time for all three of the big boys. Shame that Hisn Kayfa won’t be receiving any new stuff tho. Would love to reform the Ayyubids with them.

@godzilla9619

Please have Hellisim secretly hidden in the game like Norse

@proage5139

I think it was hinted at the patches that they would.

@elijahsbrigade6194

They explicitly said there would be no Hellenism in the Byzantine diary

@@proage5139 it wasn't. Don't fall for Ludi's clickbait. In the case of Nordic religion, it wasn't mentioned at all during the Developer Diaries for Lions of the North, that's why it was a surprise and a hidden feature. This time, for King of Kings, they made their point very clear that it Hellenism will not be a thing.

@AbstractTraitorHero

Just import a ck2/ck3 game with Hellenism in it unironically.
