1. Crushed is the indie pop project of Shaun Durkan and Bre Morell.
2. Crushed is a metal band. "Tune into any modern rock radio station or watch an episode of ‘Headbanger's Ball' circa the early 21st century, and the amount of hard rock/metal bands that mix aggression with melodic detours is staggering. But then along comes a band like Crushed, who does indeed mine the aforementioned territory, but introduces true song craft into the mix on their 2007 release, ‘My Machine.' And voila, there's a band that stands out from all the foolers. Case in point, if you judge the album opening "What Kind of Life" just by its opening, it's understandable to lump Crushed with the rest of aforementioned gang — but stick with it, and several pleasant surprises are in store (namely, the chorus and how the song ends). Also included is "Dwell," which starts off with some Tool-esque bass strumming, before turning into alt-pop, and "Ether," which includes some fine vocalizing by frontman Mark Lauer, while a track like "Leaving" could easily crossover to the mainstream masses. The group has also hooked up with a producer that needs no introduction - Mr. Mike Clink (yep, the Appetite for Destruction Mike Clink) — who has no problem navigating through the varied sonic waters of ‘My Machine.' The end result is a strong album that is not copycat, yet also is not far removed from the mainstream."

Bell Hooks
Crushed Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fascination curls right by the ten cent line
The cause of all the damage, slips through her fingers
Like gravitation meant to save her from falling
More than she can give, she is the one girl that
Disaffected youth swear that they want more than
Love or drugs or money, strange how they all seem so
Unimportant to her, realizing too late
Endless spiral, ringing the bell it takes time
Sinking lower, trapped inside everyone else and all
They think of, we don't mind the pain, eighty-seven miles
To nowhere, run through the night as I'm leading
This girl to goodbye
Endless spiral, ringing-the bell it takes time
Sinking lower than low, trapped inside everyone else
We don't mind the pain but we miss the season
Speeding up the day, effortless, assuming
In the time it takes, eighty-seven miles to nowhere
Run through the night as I'm leading this girl through the
End of the night, not knowing why
Pull down the night, end in goodbye
The lyrics of Crushed's song "Bell Hooks" are open to interpretation, but it appears to be about a girl who is stuck in a never-ending cycle of self-destruction. The first lines, "Not another word, teeth-grinding earth shaking, fascination curls right by the ten cent line," suggest that the girl is struggling to stay afloat in a world that she can't fully comprehend. She knows that she needs to stop, but she can't seem to steady herself.
The next few lines, "The cause of all the damage, slips through her fingers, like gravitation meant to save her from falling," suggest that the girl is aware of the source of her problems, but can't seem to do anything about it. She is caught in a downward spiral that she can't seem to escape.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Endless spiral, ringing the bell it takes time" and suggests that breaking free from this cycle requires patience and perseverance. The verses that follow continue to describe the girl's struggle, as she sinks deeper and deeper into her own destruction.
Overall, "Bell Hooks" is a powerful and poignant song about the dark places we can find ourselves in, and the struggle to break free from them.
