1. Crushed is the indie pop project of Shaun Durkan and Bre Morell.
2. Crushed is a metal band. "Tune into any modern rock radio station or watch an episode of ‘Headbanger's Ball' circa the early 21st century, and the amount of hard rock/metal bands that mix aggression with melodic detours is staggering. But then along comes a band like Crushed, who does indeed mine the aforementioned territory, but introduces true song craft into the mix on their 2007 release, ‘My Machine.' And voila, there's a band that stands out from all the foolers. Case in point, if you judge the album opening "What Kind of Life" just by its opening, it's understandable to lump Crushed with the rest of aforementioned gang — but stick with it, and several pleasant surprises are in store (namely, the chorus and how the song ends). Also included is "Dwell," which starts off with some Tool-esque bass strumming, before turning into alt-pop, and "Ether," which includes some fine vocalizing by frontman Mark Lauer, while a track like "Leaving" could easily crossover to the mainstream masses. The group has also hooked up with a producer that needs no introduction - Mr. Mike Clink (yep, the Appetite for Destruction Mike Clink) — who has no problem navigating through the varied sonic waters of ‘My Machine.' The end result is a strong album that is not copycat, yet also is not far removed from the mainstream."

Hovering
Crushed Lyrics

Leaving the things that you used to love
Uninvolved, until now
Secretly you make a sound
Facing your fears inspite of yourself
Talk is cheap, you break down
Elemental and hovering
Doors are opening, will you ever know?
Caught up in the light, shaking as I see
That I am hovering, am I anything?
Fully aware of what you want to be
See-saw the steps that fake your honesty
Holding ground this time
Solidly without a sound
Some wait for fate, some talk to God
Some wait for fate and then they pray to God
Some say the shape is all it takes to tell
Sunbursting and proud
Solidly, without a sound
Doors are opening, will you ever know?
Caught up in the light, shaking as I see
That I am hovering, am I anything
I'm gonna end your fears
The sadness and disease that came into your mind
And took your soul!
The song "Hovering" by Crushed is a poignant and introspective ballad about facing one's deepest fears and overcoming the obstacles that hold us back from pursuing our dreams. The opening lines call for the listener to "collapse the dream that you've always had," suggesting that the dream may not be attainable or may not be worth striving for anymore. The next line, "leaving the things that you used to love," evokes a sense of loss or sacrifice, perhaps indicating that the dream required leaving behind something else that was dear to the person.
The song then takes an intimate turn with the line "secretly you make a sound," implying that the person is going through this internal struggle alone, without anyone else to confide in. The following lines describe the person as "bitter and sad," but also determined to face their fears "inspite of yourself." The line "talk is cheap, you break down" underscores the difficulty of this process, as words and plans may fail us when trying to confront what holds us back.
The chorus presents a slightly hopeful note, with the imagery of doors opening, indicating that opportunities may arise from confronting one's fears. The lines "caught up in the light, shaking as I see / that I am hovering, am I anything?" suggest a sense of both awe and uncertainty, perhaps questioning one's own identity in the face of adversity. The song ends on a note of triumph, calling for an end to "fears / the sadness and disease that came into your mind / and took your soul!"
