Purple
Crustation Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sitting in the silent twilight
The purple half light
Of the twilight
Wrap the night around me
Blanket of black on my back
I feel safe in the darkness

Your voice is a caress
Delights my senses
Heightens my happiness
Lightens my sadness
Your eyes were on me I remember
Those days in September
Sunset run night
Your hand held in mine

Sitting in the silent twilight
The purple half light
Of the twilight
Wrap the night around me
Blanket of black on my back
I feel safe in the darkness

The silence is so loud
I almost feel it
Nothing to say now
Barely can talk now
I'm feeling like I'm lost
I'm feeling dumb
Speechless and numb
So long I've been blind
I'm losing my mind

Sitting in the silent twilight
The purple half light
Of the twilight
Wrap the night around me
Blanket of black on my back
I feel safe in the darkness

Sitting in the silent twilight rapture

Could it be too hard to capture ?
This velvet moment of serenity

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Crustation's "Purple" explore the emotions and sensations that arise when the singer is enveloped by the purple half-light of twilight. The purple light and black of the night together create a sense of safety and security in the darkness. The silence that surrounds the singer is described as "loud," which could suggest a feeling of being overwhelmed by the absence of sound. The singer is reminded of a past moment of happiness and connection, when holding hands with a partner during a sunset run.

The song then takes a turn towards more negative emotions, as the singer begins to feel lost, dumb, and speechless. The purple half-light that previously felt comforting now seems more difficult to capture and hold onto. The singer is struggling to find meaning and clarity in their thoughts and feelings, and the purple twilight no longer provides the same sense of serenity.

Overall, "Purple" seems to be a contemplative and introspective song that balances feelings of safety and security with a search for deeper meaning and understanding of the self.

This takes me back to late June 1998. I was living in Munich at the time, and one night i heard this song on a local FM station, likely 94.5 Fm. I have searched in vain since then to find this song. Thanks for posting!

@rafaelvp

Munich is awesome

Trip hop perfectly captures that spirit of a cosmopolitan multicultural city exhausted at night around 3 am when almost all clubs and bars are half emptied and you sit their all by yourself slowly sipping your drink thinking only you are that artsy in this whole town ?

@hexyko4850

Listen to their song "Hey". It has that late night feeling.

@@hexyko4850 Good one, felt like what you would listen in an art galllery exhibiting underground art

You wrote what I was thinking

Personally, I just associate this with my provincial years spent in my seaside hometown, and with the occasional trips into a nearby resort town. My closest cosmopolitan multicultural city - I associate that with more modern and less downbeat sounds.

@Dalton13

Perfectly said.

@adr0u

It's a shame I can't find Crustation on Spotify/Apple Music :(

@danielrobinson6204

I had a physical copy of it and it got stolen a few years back. So mad there’s not a digital version of this
