Their first demo tape, Life in a Grave, was produced in 1985. They toured extensively in support of the albums Convicted (1986) and Money Talks (1987) which demonstrated their [/]political[/] element in the band. They are often credited as one of the progenitors of "metal-crossover", the fast-core and hardcore punk genre, along with such seminal acts as D.R.I. and Corrosion of Conformity. Shortly after the recording of their next album, Stream of Consciousness, the band broke up in 1989 as a result of Crooks and Peterson leaving the band, as well as financial and managerial problems. Shortly after this, however, guitarist Les Evans and bassist Rob Nicholson recruited new members and continued the band.

In Cryptic Slaughter's song All Wrong, the lyrics are a scathing criticism of someone who is living their life entirely out of touch with reality. The song opens with the question, "how far do you think you can go, on ignorance and what you think you know?" The answer, as the rest of the song makes clear, is not very far. The subject of the song is described as someone who is dependent on drugs and anything else, and who has let frustration and loneliness control their every thought. The chorus repeats "it's all wrong, you're all wrong," as a condemnation of the subject's choices and way of life.
The verses of the song continue to detail the ways in which the subject is living their life in the wrong way. Interestingly, although All Wrong was released on Cryptic Slaughter's 1987 album Money Talks, it was originally written in 1985. The lyrics were inspired by the band's frustration with the state of the world at the time, particularly with the pervasive drug culture that they saw around them. Despite its age, however, the song's message is still relevant today, and it continues to resonate with fans of the band and its genre.
