Secrets
Crystal Ball Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're all alone
You struggle on
Looking for hate and revenge

Father's a thief
Mother's a bitch
You're always one step behind
Saw what you did and see what's going on

I know your secrets
I know your life
I know your secrets
I know your lies

Blood on your face
Tears in your eyes
You failed in every case

You raise your hands
Just to defend
That is just your independence

Saw what you did - and see what's going on

I know your secrets
I know your life
I know your secrets
I know your lies

A "hero" like you
Is searching the truth

But a beast - is rising in you
Time's running out

Overall Meaning

The song "Secrets" by Crystal Ball is a powerful and haunting exploration of a character's dark life, focusing on their isolation, anger, and sense of powerlessness. The opening lines set the tone by describing a person who is "all alone" and struggling to find meaning in a chaotic world. The second verse introduces the character's family background, with a father who is a "thief" and a mother who is a "bitch," both of whom seem to have played a role in the character's bleak outlook on life.

Despite the odds stacked against them, the character tries to maintain a sense of independence and self-respect, even as they confront their own failings and mistakes. The chorus of the song is a powerful message of understanding and acceptance from the singer to the character, assuring them that "I know your secrets, I know your life, I know your lies." The lyrics suggest that the character is carrying a heavy burden of guilt and shame, but that they are not alone in their struggle.

One of the most notable aspects of the song is the use of vivid imagery, such as "blood on your face" and "tears in your eyes." These lines convey a sense of violence and pain that is all too familiar to many people who are struggling with trauma or difficult life experiences. Overall, "Secrets" is a powerful and emotionally intense song that explores themes of identity, family, and the struggle for self-acceptance and forgiveness.

Katie,
Do you remember when the Duggar's gave the Bates the house addition?
It was for Mother's Day but years ago.
None of the Duggar kids were married yet.
They went to Knoxville with another big family to put the extension up.
The original Bates house was a single floor and 3 bedrooms.
They put the massive extension on.
They had expected the completion to be about 4-5 days but delays happen.
So at the end a the time, the Duggar's had to leave due to JB & Michelle having appearances scheduled.
They left Josh, John-David, Joseph, & Josiah at the Bates house to finish the house with the older Bates boys!
I remember the place had only 1 bathroom (the additional bathrooms were not done yet) & Josh said something about the Bates kids waking him up because where he & his brothers were sleeping, the only working bathroom.
I wonder if the Bates parents knew about Josh back then??
Gil doesn't seem to be the kind that would allow Josh to be around the only working bathroom!

In all honesty I absolutely believe that the Bates family is far more spiritually healthy, so far ahead of the Duggar's educationally, emotionally healthy than the Duggar family. I believe that Gil and Kelly Bates provide and have provided a far more loving, stable and loving family life than the Duggar parents.

No Duggar bates wedding now. No parent in their right mind would want their child hooking up with that family

Agreed and it’s usually narcissistic behavior to micromanage people to the point of expectation of perfection

I always thought that if it weren't for the josh scandals they would have maintained a closer family friendship and there would have been more duggar/bates relationships/courtships. The first thing I thought when the scandal broke about josh molesting his sister's and other victims was that the bates were angry that the duggars would put the bates children in danger. Or that possibly they were the other victims.

That’s a very good point. I always found it interesting that the Bateses placed a greater emphasis on formal education than the Duggars ever had. It makes a very big difference in a person’s perspective on most everything.

It could happen, but they're still good friends.
