Birds
Crystal Castles倀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Expose them to the air
Drag them by the hair
If you ask I'm feeling fine
Malignant to benign

Show up throw up into the womb
Show up throw up into the womb
Show up throw up into the womb
Show up throw up into the womb

Each breath is but a sigh
She never bat an eye
It's not polite to stare
Wool spun from her hair

Show up throw up into the womb
Show up throw up into the womb
Show up throw up into the womb
Show up throw up into the womb

Obedient and shy
With button nose and eyes

Recoil at his prayer
I'm biased to be fair

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Crystal Castles' song Birds are quite poetic and abstract. At first glance, the lines "Expose them to the air, drag them by the hair" seem violent and disturbing, but they may also represent a confrontation or revelation of some kind. The following lines "If you ask I'm feeling fine, malignant to benign" suggest a contrast between outward appearances and inner turmoil or repression.

The next set of lyrics are repeated several times in the song: "Show up throw up into the womb." This line is enigmatic and disorienting, perhaps evoking a sense of sickness or helplessness. The lines "Each breath is but a sigh, she never bat an eye" could refer to a sense of resignation or acceptance, while the lines "It's not polite to stare, wool spun from her hair" add a whimsical touch.

The final set of lyrics "Obedient and shy, with button nose and eyes, recoil at his prayer, I'm biased to be fair" suggest a possible religious or moral conflict, with one person feeling conflicted about their own biases while observing someone else's behavior. Overall, the lyrics of Birds are open to interpretation, but seem to explore themes of power, control, and the ways in which people hide their true feelings and desires.

This is heaven. You don't mind if I listen to this every night for the next 1000 nights, do you? This is the best thing to sleep to. It's natural, it doesn't sound looped, and that sound in the background sounds like camera clicking. Then there's the occasional sound of gravel or sand being lightly stepped on...it's perfect. Will knock me right out, better than any ASMR video.

Thank you, again! At first we started playing these for our cats, just for the fun of it, and now I use these videos as morning meditation (cats still watch these, obviously)🐱🐦🐱
