Underground
Crystal Kovach Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You pull down the blinds and turn away
You know that I'm right that something's not right
When the morning hurts your eyes
Oh God what an ache inside your head
And tell me who is that lying in your bed
Your memory's gone now the normal lights are on
Chorus
Tear it up, wear it down in the Underground
Now you're lost in the onslaught of sound
Take the pill in your hand, down it fast as can
Go Underground
Swallow it down, there's no one around
No one's in pain here it's not allowed
Everyone's your kind, no need is denied
When you leave the mask behind
There's nothing but sound, you're feeling it pound
Four in the floor never felt so good
The work day is gone, now you can make up for all of the harm
Chorus
Open your eyes / Look at the sky
Look at your sleeping children lie / Where do you go
Where do you turn now
The song "Underground" by Crystal Kovach seems to deal with the issue of addiction and the struggles that come with it. The lyrics paint a picture of a person who wakes up in the morning and immediately tries to escape reality by taking a pill and going underground. They are trying to numb the pain inside their head and forget about the problems in their life, even if just for a little while. The chorus emphasizes the feeling of being lost in the onslaught of sound and the need to tear up and wear down whatever is holding you back.
The lyrics also touch on the loneliness and isolation that often come with addiction. The person taking the pill is alone, and no one is allowed to feel pain in this underground world. However, the music and the beat seem to provide some sort of comfort and escape. The song ends with a plea for the person to open their eyes and look at the sky, to remember what's important and to face reality.
