Serenity
Crystal Skies Lyrics

All we know
Is that its gone.
Chances that we had
Were visions out in space
All thats true
Is that we have
The memories we had
Where we cannot explain.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Crystal Skies's Serenity captures the feeling of losing something valuable that we cannot retrieve. The first two lines, "All we know/Is that its gone," sets the tone for the entire verse. The "it" being described can be anything precious to the singer, from a relationship to a dream, and what remains is a sense of loss and confusion. In the next line, "Chances that we had/Were visions out in space," the singer admits that what they thought they had was envisioned, almost like a mirage or a dream. The use of the word "space" adds to the ethereal feeling of the verse.

The second verse is a bit more hopeful, but still acknowledges the reality of loss. "All thats true/Is that we have/The memories we had/Where we cannot explain" suggests that memories are what's left after the loss, but they also exist in a place that cannot be easily explained or accessed. The emphasis on "cannot explain" makes us think that perhaps what was lost was so profound that words or rational thought cannot contain it. Overall, the lyrics of Serenity speaks to the idea that sometimes we have to let go of something precious, even if it hurts, and all we are left with are memories of its beauty.
