Prismatic Room
Crystal Stilts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Been building my life out of distorted fragments
Absorbing light through a prismatic tomb
My mind imbibes the city's madness
Projecting worlds on the walls of this magic room
This magic room
My prismatic tomb
This prismatic room
My magic tomb
When I conjure memories
They feel like someone else's
Mere unconscious currency
I adhere to my reflections

Been building my life out of distorted fragments
Absorbing light through a kaleidoscopic tomb
My mind imbibes the city's madness
Projecting worlds on the walls of this cosmic room

Been building my life out of distorted fragments
Absorbing light through a kaleidoscopic tomb

My mind imbibes the city's madness
Projecting worlds on the walls of this cosmic room

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Crystal Stilts's song "Prismatic Room" paint a vivid picture of someone trying to build and understand their life amidst the chaos of a busy city. The opening line, "Been building my life out of distorted fragments," implies that the singer is piecing together their identity from fragments of experiences and memories that may be distorted or unclear. They are also "absorbing light through a prismatic tomb," which suggests that they are taking in information and experiences from different angles or perspectives, but it is still filtered or altered in some way.

Throughout the song, the singer talks about their mind "imbibing the city's madness" and "projecting worlds on the walls of this magic room." This indicates that they are struggling to make sense of the chaos around them and are attempting to create some sort of order or understanding through their own imagination and reflections. However, even when they "conjure memories," they often feel like they belong to someone else or are just a form of "unconscious currency." Despite this, they continue to "adhere to their reflections," suggesting that they are committed to figuring out who they are and what they want out of life.

Overall, "Prismatic Room" is a reflective and introspective song that speaks to the struggle of trying to build and navigate one's own complex identity in a chaotic and confusing world.

Just discovered this band - seeing them live next week Is it me or are they singing in a British accent? This is like an early 80s British Indie band trying to be the Velvet Underground - hence the JAMC references. I just have such a soft spot for that fuzzy, low fi, dreamlike sound.

This magic, prismatic song. Possibly their best, at least my favorite by the Crystal's!

I put my original comment on a year ago and this song has stood the test of time. It is my favourite track of the noughties and has become one of my favourite records of all time. It's so-oo addictive. I have been known to put this on a loop on a 2 hour car journey and still not tire of it. Great band live as well - seen them twice.
