Their name comes from bananaCUE (bananas cooked with charcoals, a delicacy in the Philippines) and the pronoun "she." They used to practice their music in the bedroom of their current bandleader Mike Manaloto -- it was the band’s makeshift rehearsal studio. After practice, they would have Banana Cue, a cheap but nutritious Filipino street food for snacks, as it was what they could afford as students. This became the inspiration for the first syllable of the band's name. The “shé”, pronounced 'shay,' comes from the gender of the vocalist, who was female. According to the band, an accent was added at the end of Cueshé to make it attractive to hear.
After surviving a near-death motorcycle mishap in December 24, 2001, Jay Justiniani replaced the female vocalist.
Guitarist/lead vocalist Ruben Caballero later joined the group. His contribution to the band evolved from only doing vocals with Jay to playing the guitar. Pianist/Keyboardist Jhunjie Dosdos came into the band with musical experience from his younger years. He joined numerous singing contests when he was still a kid. In his former band, he performed vocals and guitars.
In March 2005, the band took a risk by moving to the capital to become full-time musicians. They were urgently signed up and rushed to the studio.

Hump Ahead
Cueshé Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On your wedding day
Your glowing face
Just lights up the place
Two hours later
He's still no show
The world just came
Crashing down on you
Sometimes life breaks us
Sometimes life gets us to where we are now
Cause we'll never know
What lies ahead
On a sunny day
Your wife gave birth
You knelt down in prayers
Thanking Him for your son
Then suddenly
The doctors came
She didn't make it
"Lord what have I done?"
A diamond ring
On her wedding day her glowing face
Just lights up the place
As they're about
To exchange their vows
The bride then said
"I'm not ready for this"
The lyrics to Cueshé's song "Hump Ahead" depict three different scenarios that highlight how life can be unpredictable and how it can take unexpected turns. The first verse talks about a bride on her wedding day, her face glowing with happiness and anticipation to exchange vows, but her groom never shows up, leaving her devastated. This situation shows how life can break us, and how plans we have made for ourselves can suddenly fall apart, leaving us unsure of what the future holds.
The second verse tells the story of a man who, on a sunny day, becomes a father to a baby boy, but his joy is short-lived as his wife passes away shortly after giving birth. This situation is a reminder that life can get us to where we are now, and we never know what may lie ahead. The final verse describes a bride who suddenly backs out of her own wedding, admitting that she is not ready for the commitment. This scenario shows how sometimes, even when we think we have everything figured out, we may still find ourselves uncertain about our choices and desires.
Overall, "Hump Ahead" is a poignant song that captures the unpredictability of life and the way in which unexpected events can shake us to our core, leaving us reeling and unsure of what the future may hold.
