Leave Me Here
Cult of Luna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out of a secret longing
They know their way from here
Out of a growing dream
They follow the road we create

I see what I've cut behind me
Lost on the bottom you often found me there
False conscience is beyond me
Lost in the backwoods I lie open to you here
Just leave me here

These men are running hard
But you keep down your voices
Living only to judge heavy
All mysteries aside there was a truth outside

Leave me here and I'm born again
Leave me here in this void again
Now I am open left for dead
Just like salvation comes in the end

Overall Meaning

In the opening line of the verse from Cult of Luna's song Leave Me Here, there is an insinuation of secrecy in which an unidentified group of individuals seems to navigate a path known only to those with inside knowledge. There is a suggestion of the pursuit of a desired goal that is shrouded in secrecy with participants who only know each other by instilling trust. In the next line, the first insinuation of a 'growing dream' hints that these individuals’ journey is genuinely more profound than simple navigation. A growing dream might suggest something that is growing or evolving rather than just being a goal. This observation is confirmed when the anonymous participants ‘follow the road we create.’ There is a sense of purpose in their journey, and they live to create a better place for themselves, regardless of their past.

In the chorus, the singer is critical, and they see the past behind them, which is full of regrets, as a weight that pulls them down. For the longest time, there have been false beliefs within them that kept them from being honest with themselves. The singer finds themselves lost, presumably in the middle of nowhere, fully exposed and vulnerable to all those around them. The chorus repeats the same line to emphasise the rejection of external help or concern. Just leave me here. The second verse begins with a sense of urgency, "these men are running hard," as if they are chasing something, yet they stifle their voice, implying that they are not free to express themselves, supporting the suggestion that they are in the pursuit of something covert.

Shultz Ey

Mine was the watchtower, and this soon after. Favourite band ever actually.

Ronald Beahm Jr

This is definitively one of their best songs

Donovan Pete

This was the song that got me into Cult of Luna, the song that made me love this band from that moment until probably forever. The followup "Somewhere Along the Highway" became my most cherished album from CoL, nothing can truly explain how much that album, Eternal Kingdom and Salvation have meant to me but they're all in rotation almost on the daily when I'm doing work or walking.

Rasmus Elmely Lindblad

Couldn't have written it better myself!

Nadie

I saw them in 2006... and I really felt like a "revelation"... music can open the doors of knowledge...

Invi Sible

First CoL' song I've heard. I find it full of emotions I can't exactly name. I just listen to this loudly on the earphones with my eyes closed and... get lost somewhere, in another world...

Dani Torres

This was my first CoL song too, many years ago, just browsing on Youtube and I found this... I felt it all over my body, was crazy. I'm in love with this music since then...
