Curren$y had an underground hit in 2006, Where Da Cash At, which can be heard on several of Lil' Wayne's mixtapes, including Dedication 2. He was featured on Lil Wayne's song "Grown Man" from the album Tha Carter II. Due to certain issues concerning the release of his album Music 2 Fly 2, he left Young Money and formed his Fly Society crew with professional skateboarder and rapper Terry Kennedy.
He has since focused on his Jets movement, which helped introduce various rappers such as Trademark da Skydiver, Young Roddy, Fendi P and T.Y., as well as slightly reintroduce No Limit veteran Fiend to new audiences. He later started to work in New York with Ski Beatz and other MCs at Dame Dash's DD172; where he released Pilot Talk and its sequel Pilot Talk II both in 2010, and was also featured on several songs on Ski Beatz' 24 Hour Karate School. Since then, Curren$y has put out eight more albums, 25 EPs and 43 mixtapes.

Chasin
Curren$y Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To want it all, I was born to ball
Making Lamborghini engine sounds pedaling my bike
Lusted at luxury life since a tyke
Switches on a Monte Carlo turn a car into a trike
These images was burned in my mind
Chasing that paper like it stole something of mine
It did though, friends killed over small bills
Life so fragile
But the big bucks lay down the road less traveled
Cause they scared of the hazards
We living for the money, nigga we dying to have it
These hoes shaking asses doing lines
Popping valiums adding to a long list of bad habits
Niggas murdering, burglaring and kidnapping
Dashing and cashing all in the midst of the madness
I know
I was there so I seen and I did what you up to
I know you're chasing the paper (my nigga)
I know that scared but it's there and the girls wanna fuck you
I know you're chasing that paper (you're chasing that paper)
I know what that it is
All I wanted was some rims
I had a couple girls
But I knew if I had some chrome, I could multiply them hoes by ten
Materialistic them bitches is kinda hypocritical though my nigga
Because we play the same games wit 'em
Guilty of it fuck it though
I'm lane switching with no roof like a house when a tornado hit it
No kidding this world ain't Disney
These characters is after your pennies
Stack up can't go far with the dealings
Pimpin', back up, look at the whole picture and then see if it add up
I ain't no mathematician but I can count
On the jets fetching a very large amount
Racks on, racks on racks
Stretch marks on my account
I know how you feel I'm still feeling it now
I know
I was there so I seen and I did what you up to
I know you're chasing the paper (my nigga)
I know that scared but it's there and the girls wanna fuck you
I know you're chasing that paper (you're chasing that paper)
Eyes low but I'm still watching outsiders
Bony girl know that she rolling with a rida
Money on my mind yeah that shit is inside us
I'm up all night chasing paper (paper)
Eyes low but I'm still watching outsiders
Bny girl know that she rolling with a rida
Money on my mind yeah that shit is inside us
I'm up all night chasing paper (paper)
I know
I was there so I seen and I did what you up to
I know you're chasing the paper (my nigga)
I know that scared but it's there and the girls wanna fuck you
I know you're chasing that paper (you're chasing that paper)
In "Chasin" by Curren$y, the rapper talks about his success and how he doesn't have to chase after money, love or fame. The first verse speaks about how some things are meant to stay and some things are meant to go but he isn't trying to ruin anyone's life. He just wants to make his own way and reach the top. He reminds us that the money and the women will come to him, and he doesn't have to chase them. The second verse is more introspective, as Curren$y reflects on his past and how he used to live in a run-down house with his friends. He talks about his past mistakes, like not reading contracts properly and getting ripped off, and how he learned from them. He realized that he can't change the world, but he contributed by making a difference.
The chorus is repeated throughout the song, where he emphasizes that he doesn't need to chase after anything since he has everything he needs. He started from humble beginnings, but now he is at the top, he has achieved success, and he doesn't need to chase anything.

They say I smoke too much, I say I don't smoke enough
You ain't dealing with what I'm dealing with, bruh
Remembering when the crib I lived in didn't look like this
The carpet had burn holes, nigga, we was in there smoking
And thinking on how to grab us some mid
Me and my dog was close to going half on a chopper
And like a pound of weed and just lockin' in and gettin' it
But then lightening hit
Wasn't trying to change the world
But we fucked around and did it
Kept all my cars, but I kept trading in woman
Neon lights spell out my company name on the side of the building
It's going down in my life, baby girl, but I really be chilling
Reminiscing, lost wages, bum deals
I should've ran magnifying glasses on them pages and that's for real, yeah
Curren$y reminisces on his past struggles with his friend, including when they were broke and smoked weed in a run-down apartment, dreaming of getting rich. Despite all the challenges he's faced, including lost money and bad deals, Curren$y remains calm and collected in his current life of success.
Give it all back to my son, millions plus one
I don't do 'less it's fun, to focus the funds
I remember taking trips with weed in the trunk
Now police don't even trip when we rolling up
Legal stunts, got a pound with each our name on it
Setting up the family, that's the main focus
Game polished, did our best to keep these lames off us
Turned down what the labels offer
Now everything in our name
Influenced the game with our slang
Its all a hundred percent, never changed
All my niggas stay solid as the friend
You broke, won't never fix you again
Curren$y reflects on his legacy and the wealth he's accumulated over the years. He plans to pass it all down to his son and family, and only invests in things that he enjoys doing. He also talks about how far he's come, reminiscing on how he used to hide weed in his car, but now can smoke it openly without worry. Curren$y also mentions how he turned down record label deals in order to maintain control over his own music and career, and take pride in the influence he's had on the game with his unique style.
