Please Please
Curtis V. Womack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I could try to say I'm sorry
But, that won't be quite enough
To let you know the pain that I feel
And, it just won't let up
Oh, it feels like the sky is falling
And, the clouds, clouds are closing in
Where did I lose control?
Where did it all begin?

Please, forgive my heart
It's not that the problem
Lies anywhere in there
I'm a liar
I'm in a dream
Going on my way
Nothing to rely on

There's a time
A silent witness
To the blindness of the night
And, we see reflections so clear
In the blush, blush of the morning light
Time can pass so slowly
When you're faced with burning down
The time is not commuted
It lingers, lingers without a sound

Please, forgive my heart
It's not that the problem
Lies anywhere in there
I'm a liar
I'm in a dream
Going on my way
Nothing to rely on

Please, forgive my heart
It's not that the problem
Lies anywhere in there
I'm a liar
I'm in a dream

Going on my way
Nothing to rely on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Curtis V. Womack's "Please Please" reveal the artist's plea for forgiveness from a loved one. The song's tempo is slow, mournful, and reflective of its subject matter—self-reflection, guilt and forgiveness. The first stanza attempts to convey the singer's remorse for the pain caused, but realizes that these apologies fall short of the magnitude of the wrong they committed. It feels like a falling sky and clouds closing in, and the singer can't pinpoint exactly where things went wrong. This sets the stage for the chorus, the most repeated and memorable in the song, where the singer humbly asks for forgiveness.

The second stanza further delves into the feeling of hopelessness experienced as time passes by slowly when faced with the possibility of losing the relationship. The lines "I'm a liar, I'm in a dream, going on my way" reveal the internal conflict and self-doubt felt by the artist. The song's overall message is one of regret and a deep desire to seek forgiveness. In the end, the artist is left with nothing to rely on but the hope that their plea will be heard and accepted.

I could try to say I’m sorry
But then won’t be quite enough
To get you know pain that I feel
And it just won’t let…
Oh, it feels like the sky is falling
And the clouds, clouds are falling in
When I lose control, when it all begin.

Please, forgive my heart,
Cause not that the problems
lies anywhere in there
I’m a liar, I’m in a dream
Going my way, nothing to rely on

From the dumb silent weakness
To the blindness of the night
And we see reflexions so clear
And the blush, blush of the morning light
Hmmm time it can pass so slowly
When you face the burden down
The term is not…

Please, forgive my heart,
Cause not that the problems
lies anywhere in there
I’m a liar, I’m in a dream
Going my way, nothing to rely on
(bis)

Please, forgive my heart,
Cause not that the problems
lies anywhere in there
I’m a liar, I’m in a dream
Going my way, nothing to rely on
Uh, oh, oh

I could try to say I'm sorry
But that won't be quite enough
To let you know the pain that I feel
And it just won't let up
(Let up, let up, let up)
Oh, it feels like the sky is falling
And the clouds
Clouds are closing in
Where did I lose control?
Where did it all begin?
Please forgive my heart
It's not that the problem
Lies anywhere in there
I'm a liar
I'm in a dream
Going my own way
Nothing to rely on
Oh, the dawn is a silent witness
To the blindness of the night
And we see a reflection so clear
In the blush
Blush of the morning light
Time can pass so slowly
When you face the burden down
Your term is not commuted
It lingers, lingers without a sound
Please forgive my heart
Not that the problem, problem
Lies anywhere in there
I'm a liar
I'm in a dream
Going on my own
Nothing to rely on
Oh, please forgive
Forgive my heart
It's not that the problem
Lies anywhere in there
I'm a liar
I'm in a dream
Can't you see me going on my way?
Nothing to rely on
Rely on, rely on, yeah

Whoa. This music video feels really powerful to me. I don't usually write things like this, but it feels like his hands are contorted because he feels so awful about what he's done and himself in general that he feels the need to punish himself. I would assume his fingernails are painted to "mark" himself, kind of like The Scarlet Letter. They just kind of sit there, helpless the whole song, because that's how Womack is; hurt and waiting for someone to notice.
