Airborne
Cut Copy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Midnight’s crazy when you’re down
Plant your tears in the ground
Dream plantations slowly grow
Until they cover your sorrow

(Silver city knows) It’s hard to love
(Silver city tears) Living here
(Silver city knows) It’s hard to love
(Silver city tears) Living here

That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me

Walk for years, desert man
Footprints swallowed in the sand
Makes me dizzy this city of mine
Jagged teeth, made of glass, rising up and meet me in the sky

(Silver city knows) It’s hard to love
(Silver city tears) Living here
(Silver city knows) It’s hard to love
(Silver city tears) Living here

That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me
That don’t stop me

I don’t remember this place at all
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
I don’t remember this place at all
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else

Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else
Just that I’m dreaming of somewhere else

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cut Copy's song "Airborne" speak to the difficulty of finding happiness and love in a city filled with sorrow and tears. The opening lines, "Midnight's crazy when you're down / Plant your tears in the ground / Dream plantations slowly grow / Until they cover your sorrow," suggest that when we're feeling down, it's easy to become consumed by our sadness and lose sight of our dreams. The idea of planting tears in the ground and growing dream plantations is a metaphor for the power of hope and imagination to help us cope with difficult times.

The chorus, "Silver city knows it's hard to love / Silver city tears living here," reinforces the idea that this is a city filled with pain and suffering. The repetition of the phrase "that don't stop me" throughout the song suggests that despite the challenges of living in this city, the singer is determined to keep pushing forward and pursuing their dreams.

The second verse describes the desert landscape outside of the city, with the image of footprints swallowed by the sand suggesting a feeling of being lost and disconnected from the world. The city itself is described as having "jagged teeth, made of glass, rising up and meet me in the sky," a vivid image that conveys both its beauty and its danger.

Overall, "Airborne" is a song about the struggle to find joy and love in a world filled with pain and sorrow. The lyrics suggest that even when things seem hopeless, we can find solace in our dreams and our ability to keep moving forward.

You guys make me want to drink gin and walk down the street, completely naked...except for my boots and some headphones to bump this wicked tune to.

The more I listen to this the more I think this is easily one of their best core compositions when it comes to the percussion, vocals, bass line, and washed out guitar hooks. I'd actually prefer the backing effects and the outro be taken out of the song as I think they are "distracting" (while not terrible) or in the case of the outro unnecessary. If anyone out there has editing software that could strip this down I would love to here how it sounds with the basic elements.

Outro is there for djs so they can keep playing this track even longer if they want, just to repeat some loop from the middle (on the end of original track) or to swich to another track
